Trowbridge is probably not the place you would consider spending any time. But if you go on a Pevsner's Perambulation you might see the town in a new light. Starting at the Town Hall and heading down Fore Street, it highlights a surprising number of beautiful Georgian and early Victorian buildings. Although they are easily outnumbered by the horrors of late 20th century architecture, it is well worth half a day to explore them.

I was saddened when Cru closed as a good wine shop is pretty essential for any town centre and Bradford on Avon now lacks one. Fortunately its replacement is excellent with fantastic bread and a range of savouries and pastries, all being made in front of you, that are just excellent.

Town centres constantly change but it is still sad when shops that have been a feature for over a hundred and fifty year...

Town centres constantly change but it is still sad when shops that have been a feature for over a hundred and fifty years, cease trading. Browns was the perfect hardware store that sold everything but is now empty. By contrast, immediately across the road a new venture has appeared and Little Ritual continues the tradition of Bradford on Avon in serving really excellent coffee. It is becoming increasingly difficult to buy useful things in town, but much easier to eat and drink well.
