So this is it. The end. Of the refit anyway... What new beginnings this will lead to, well, who knows? That's up to you. Amelie Rose is a stunning, one of a kind boat, and she could be yours. She's been my home and my office for 15 years but now it's time for us both to move on. Me to a life ashore, her, back to sea with new hands on the helm and a new "family" aboard. We're both ready for that. Are you?

With literally days to go until the deadline, and on the hottest day of 2024 - with the temperature on the pontoon north of 35°C - I was confronted with the need to re-rig the boat in just one day. Everything was ready to go and all labelled up, but still, taking it all off had taken me three days so this was a big ask.

Consequently there are virtually no photos. The day passed in a bit of a blur. I do know that I drank over 3 ltrs of water that day but didn't stop for a p*e. I do know that whilst I was doing it Devin, Steph, Scarlett, and West were helping to finish off the deck. And I do know that I worked pretty much from sun up to sun down on one of the longest days of the year.

But we did it!

Into the final weeks and finally it was the turn of the bulwarks and deck furniture (the biggest painted areas on deck!) It also turned out to be the hottest days of the year which made life fun, but at least the paint dried almost immediately. The days all blur into one looking back but during this bit we were helped by Sam, Joy, Steph, Scarlett, & West.

In amongst here somewhere I re-served half the standing rigging too but it was hot and the days were long and we were right up against it so somehow I have no photos of that at all. Still. We were nearly there. Just re-rigging and snagging to do now...

We were now only a week or so away from our deadline - an Open Day at Bucklers Hard on the Beaulieu River - but there was still much to do. Much of it fiddly. And still there was still the inside of the bulwarks and all the re-rigging to do. But at least we had help for the final sprint. David Clift joined us, Steve Finch dropped off all the blocks that he'd sanded and drowned in oil and good old Paul Bickmore set to sorting out the leatherwork. Even Missy Boo lent a paw - looking out for thieving piratey scumbags... And the sun shone. Oh how it shone. These last few days were soooo hot.

Boom & Gaff sound like a pair of cowboy builders but in this case it was more about giving these spars the same attention that we were lavishing on the rest of Amelie Rose's woodwork. Thanks to their shape most of them had to be sanded by hand which was tiring - hence shifting the gaff to the pontoon - cos sanding with your hands above your head is hellish. Worth the effort though!

Amelie Rose has a lot of oak and opepe on deck, and it had all got a bit dull and grey so our next job was to rip it all back and get lots of layers of oil on to protect it all from the weather and bring back its' beautiful colours...
