From Beddgelert to the sea! (Or very nearly…)

A 20km mission around the northern side of the Moel Hebog ridge into the stunningly peaceful Cwm Pennant.

Expedition packs, head high bracken and swarming horseflies made for a character building experience in the western wilds of Wales.

The last rays of summer sun dipping below the horizon of the western Lleyn Peninsula.

Looking east, back towards the mountains of covered in storm clouds, we did feel a certain sense of smugness that we were bathed in beautiful orange light whilst it was tipping it down inland.

No crowds, just clouds.

Peeking through fluffy white windows at stunning summer vistas was the order of the day.

A lovely traverse of the Moel Hebog ridge taking in Moel Yr Ogof and Moel Lefn.

This route offers a fantastic day out in true Welsh mountain terrain, for those looking to avoid the crowds in favour for a bit of tranquility.

Walking off into the sunset takes in a well earned view above Llyn Llagi

From just below our high point at Llyn Yr Adar, this is the final sunset of our spectacular, 3 day woodland mission around the Moelwynion.

The less time I spend on mountain summits, the more I grow to appreciate the true density of beautiful places here in .

Here’s to many more multi day missions where the journey is far more important than the destination.

Chasing the sun with and .thomson33

After a mad, whistle stop trip to the tropics and a mammoth journey home, it feels great to back in British summer time.

Wanting to make the most of the long days and still reacclimatising to the light nights, we headed up over Y Garn, Mynydd Drws y Coed and Trum y Ddysgl (aka ‘the sleeping lady’) to catch a stunning mountain sunset.

Do you remember your first time?

Born and bred in the valleys of Eryri, Zoe had spent her entire life looking up at the mountains. Today, for the first time in her 34 years, she finally got the chance to look down; from the summit of Moel Hebog, her first ever mountain!

By the look on her face and the conversations we’ve had, I suspect this won’t be her last mountain. I also suspect that no matter what lofty places her new found hobby may take her, she’ll never forget her first time looking down.
