๐๐ด **Port of call: Roseau, Dominica** ๐ด๐
We docked in **Roseau**, the capital of Dominica, early in the morning โ๏ธ๐ข. As soon as we stepped off the ship, we were approached by various guidesโฆ but we were *not* about to repeat the mistake we made in St Lucia ๐
๐.
On our last visit here, we explored the stunning **Emerald Pool** and rainforest ๐ฟ๐ฆ, so this time we wanted to see a different part of this beautiful island. We took a **private 2-hour tour** for **$34 each**, paid at the end, and our guide **Christine** was excellent โ a big personality, a loud laugh, and great fun from start to finish ๐๐.
Our first stop was the **Botanical Gardens** ๐บ๐ด, where you can still see what remains of the **school bus crushed by a fallen tree during Hurricane David in 1979** ๐๐ณ. Amazingly, the tree has continued to grow around the bus ever since โ nature really does have the last word!
We also saw a **massive Banyan tree**, which survived **Hurricane Maria in 2017** ๐ช๐ณ. Itโs famous for its enormous crown and incredible network of aerial roots. Iโm pretty sure itโs the largest Banyan tree Iโve ever seen! There was also a very strange-looking tree which turned out to be an **Elephant Sausage tree**โฆ right next to an **Elephant Apple tree** ๐คฃ๐. Clearly we were in the elephant district.
Then we drove steeply up to **Morne Bruce**, a hillside enclave with panoramic views over the city and the Caribbean Sea ๐๐๏ธ. The site was once home to the military garrison that protected Roseau, and you can still see remains of the original barracks and officersโ quarters.
From there we could see **Scottโs Head**, famous for its unique geography where the **Atlantic Ocean** meets the **Caribbean Sea** ๐๐.
We also stopped at **Trafalgar Falls** ๐ฆ๐ธ and I managed to get a couple of *โokโ* photosโฆ clearly I need to attend a few more photography classes on board ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐ท๐.
Continuing the tour, we stopped near **Wotten Waven**, an area known for its volcanic, mineral-rich hot springs โจ๏ธ๐. We could smell the sulphur pools as we walked towards them, and the heat definitely intensified the closer we got โ temperatures can reach over **100 degrees** ๐ณ๐ฅ.
And of course, where thereโs a tourist stop, thereโs always a stall or shop ๐๏ธ๐. I got completely sucked in and bought a packet of sulphur which, apparently, will make me **20 years younger** ๐ค๐คฃ. Time will tell! Itโs also said to help with skin conditions and arthritis, so we shall see.
A really enjoyable tour and **great value** too โ thanks Christine! ๐๐๐ด
