This was a very topical webinar to be involved with in November but the messages are still very pertinent today and it would seem for the months to come as we continue to do business during the pandemic.
For tips on what to consider when caring for your customers during the Covid crisis have a listen to my presentation in the Lets do Business series of webinars organised by Belfast Met for Belfast Chamber. You can listen to the webinar here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8HGEo4z3fg&list=PLWbXk5kgUxyFzOoRa8iYWINQbQ6UA480M&index=1&t=13s

'Stay at home' tourism is very topical in 2020 due to the global pandemic but it gives us a chance to get better acquainted with the tourism gems that we have on our doorsteps. Thinking about the many wonderful places we have to explore reminds me of the delights in and around Armagh. I was very lucky to be involved with another trainer, Lynda Willis of Customer Sense Training, in a special programme called The Armagh Ambassador programme in 2016. Our programme helped to develop the skills of 25 budding ambassadors for Armagh who embarked on a programme of key visits, tours and seminars to build their confidence in becoming ambassadors for Armagh City and its environs. Here is a short video to explain what they did.........

A nostalgic lookback at a selection of pre Covid 19 face to face non socially distanced workshops by Siofra O’Reilly of SORT Training and hoping that we can return to that format some day in the not too distant future. Featured are WorldHost Golf Ambassador work shops for the 148th Golf Open which came to Northern Ireland in 2019.
Other WorldHost workshops featured are the Principles of Customer Service for young adults preparing for employment and an Ambassador workshop for Robinson Services in Castle Court and a series of WorldHost Customers with Disabilities workshops for staff at Tourism Northern Ireland.

SORT Training tutors had the luxury of engaging face to face participative workshops without having to worry about social distancing, sanitisers, or technical online training hiccups. This was all before the lockdown changed everything of course! I hope that the truly social aspect of face to face group training isn’t a thing of the past and it will return again when it is safe to do so.
SORT Training delivered workshops for the hospitality industry on responsible alcohol service for licensed premises including nightclubs and bars in Magherafelt and Cookstown and licensed restaurants in Belfast. Siofra O’Reilly of SORT Training is also a part time lecturer for Belfast Metropolitan College and one of her business development workshops is featured here.

I attended the Tourism Matters discussion and presentation recently at the Hospitality Exchange industry conference and exhibition organised by Northern Ireland Hotels Federation. The future continues to look bright for our industry though realistic challenges will have to be faced and dealt with to maintain the level of success already achieved. Great presentation by Gareth Hetherington of the UU Economic Policy Centre.

The future success of our tourism and hospitality industry is having enough staff to make it work! I was delighted to be able to take part in an important recruitment drive for this industry at the Belfast Hospitality Careers and Job Fair recently in St Georges Market. I spoke about Interview Techniques to young industry hopefuls. Maybe someday in the future I will be served in a bar, restaurant or hotel by some of the keen listeners at the Job Fair.

Belfast Cathedral - St Anne's Cathedral has achieved WorldHost Recognised Business status. Staff and volunteers undertook WorldHost training recently and celebrated by doing a congo in Buoy Park next to the Cathedral. I had the pleasure to be part of the delivery team who delivered the WorldHost training. I delivered the Principles of Customer Service and Lynda Willis delivered the Ambassador programme. Dean Stephen Forde said “You are part of something really important. The thing that I remember most clearly from the training is the need to make every visit memorable for those who come through the door. We are aiming for excellence in everything. You all have a love for this Cathedral, and that shows.”
