On Wednesday 16th April 2025 at midday there was a very rare bird visiting Corbett Cottage - a White Stork!!! Our neighbours David and Alison Borthwick were so lucky to see it. David spotted it first, it had landed in their horse paddock. The horse chased it and David managed to get a photo of it in flight with his phone. It then landed in the field just over the road towards the A1 so both Alison and David followed quietly & Alison got a phone photo of it hunkered down in the grass. They are a bird of continental Europe and in warm spring weather can make their way over to the UK but are very rare. A few now breed in southern England following reintroduction. They used to be regular breeders in the UK until 1214 when the last pair nested on an Edinburgh cathedral. They then went extinct. Corbett Cottage visitors should keep their eyes open in case it returns. Well done to our sharp-eyed neighbours for ensuring that this rare event was recorded.

Just heading home from a great weekend at Corbett Cottage with friends from uni days. Coast walk from Craster to Seahouses, kippers for breakfast and a pub crawl in Berwick and saw local band The Blame playing a great set in a little Berwick bar. Be back soon! John.

Our current guests Lynne and John Briers have brought their trail cam on holiday and have installed Corbett Cottage pondcam for the fortnight. Lynne has sent us a few snippets. It's great to watch our garden birds behaving naturally without being disturbed and it looks like birds are almost constantly drinking, bathing and feeding at or near the pond🤓
Enjoy Corbett Cottage's version of mindful moments.

We're just back from another great week at Corbett Cottage. Highlights included boat trips around Coquet Island and onto Inner Farne. A walk around lovely Ford Moss, catch ups with friends and family and Alnwick Thursday Market. It was also great for birds including American Black Tern, Cinnamon Teal and Bridled Tern around the North Northumberland coast plus Lesser Whitethroats near the cottage! John and Siofra🤓💃
