With a monthly pension of just 3,300 Cuban pesos, making ends meet is becoming increasingly difficult. A tray of 30 eggs can cost around 4,200 pesos, while a litre of cooking oil costs a similar amount.

When pensions cannot cover even basic essentials, and subsidised food is increasingly scarce, how are people expected to survive?

For those without access to US dollars or other hard currency, everyday necessities are becoming further out of reach.

This is the reality for many ordinary Cubans, navigating a daily struggle to afford the basics.

A little throwback to one of those unforgettable Cuban mornings. 🇨🇺❤️

Before sunrise, we trekked through the darkness of Viñales Valley towards Los Acuáticos. As the first golden light appeared, the mogotes rose through the morning mist, revealing the incredible landscape below.

We shared coffee with local guides, heard the stories of this unique mountain community and watched the valley slowly come to life.

Today, Cuba is going through an incredibly difficult time. So we’re looking back at these memories with even more appreciation - for the landscapes, traditions, communities and, above all, the people who make Cuba so special.

In 1868, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes launched Cuba’s first war of independence.

Since then, Cuba’s story has often been shaped by the ambitions of larger powers. Yet through colonial rule, foreign influence, political upheaval and economic hardship, Cubans have continued to defend a strong sense of identity and self-determination.

Today’s fuel shortages and blackouts are just the latest challenge in a long history of resilience. As always, it is the Cuban people who keep the island moving forward. 🇨🇺

🇨🇺❤️ The food parcels keep going!

Thanks to the incredible £7,000 donation from the Latin American Travel Association, we’re continuing to support families across Cuba facing the ongoing crisis.

So far, 84 families have received vital food parcels, with another 50 families expected to receive support this week - around 134 families in total.

We’re reaching communities beyond central Havana, including Bauta, Santa Fe, Artemisa, Alamar, Guanabo and Santiago de las Vegas.

Every parcel makes a difference. ❤️

The Cuba We Love: Trinidad 🇨🇺🌴

There are places in Cuba that feel like stepping into another time - and Trinidad is one of them.

With its cobbled streets, colourful buildings, old wooden doors and the Escambray Mountains rising in the distance, Trinidad is one of Cuba’s most beautifully preserved historic towns.

But what we love most isn’t just the architecture. It’s the feeling of the place - music spilling into the streets, neighbours chatting from their doorways, horses passing through the old town and that unmistakable Cuban warmth around every corner.

It’s the Cuba we know and love: colourful, characterful, full of history and alive with stories.

We know these are difficult times for Cuba, and we’re thinking of the people and communities who make places like Trinidad so special.

This year has been one of the toughest Cuba has faced in decades.

The economic crisis, fuel shortages, power cuts and falling visitor numbers have had a huge impact on tourism. For many of our team members, guides and local partners, there is currently little or no tourism work available.

Yet, despite these challenges, the people we work with continue to show remarkable resilience, generosity and hope.

Today, we’re thinking of our team, our partners and the many Cuban families whose livelihoods have been affected by the crisis. ❤️

Cuba is still here. And so are its people. 🇨🇺

Thanks to your incredible support we’re still donating food packages!

We’re currently spending the £7000 donated Latin American Travel Association, using the money to deliver food parcels to families in Cuba who are struggling with the ongoing crisis.

We have spent £4,500 this month to deliver vital food parcels to 84 families.

And we’re not finished yet.

We expect to reach another 50 families by the end of the week, bringing the total to approximately 134 families supported through this donation. A big GRACIAS to our friends at !

How They Survive: The Apagones ⚡🇨🇺

Cuba is going through an incredibly difficult time right now, with a severe energy crisis leading to prolonged and frequent power outages - known in Cuba as apagones.

In some parts of the island, people may have just one or two hours of electricity at a time. When the power finally returns, there’s a small window to do everything that depends on electricity: charge phones, cook, wash clothes, pump water and try to keep food from spoiling. With fridges unable to stay cold for long periods, even storing food becomes a challenge.

And then there’s the heat.

With temperatures reaching around 33°C at night, losing electricity means losing even a simple fan.

For some, sleeping outside becomes the only way to find a little relief from the heat, where there is more air than inside their homes.

This is the reality many people in Cuba are facing right now.

We love Cuba deeply, and while we continue to share the places, people and experiences that make this island so special, we also want to acknowledge what is happening here and the very real difficulties faced by Cuban families every day.
