Anyone spotted a giant green horse in Birmingham this week? 👀🐴💚

Meet Faster Horse, a six-metre inflatable sculpture by artist Bruce Asbestos that's been making a rather unexpected appearance in the city!

Created with Birmingham Open Media (BOM) for Birmingham Tech Week, the artwork celebrates creativity, big ideas and thinking differently.

It popped up at Grand Central on Monday and outside Symphony Hall today, bringing a bit of colour to Birmingham along the way.

And there's a game too! 🎮

BOM has created a free mobile game where you can race around a track, collect power-ups and discover inventions, history and places from across the West Midlands.

Green space, good food and plenty of independent spots to wander into - Moseley and King’s Heath have all the ingredients for a great day out. 🌿☕️

RJ and his family started with a stroll through Cannon Hill Park before heading to Midlands Arts Centre for a little culture (and, naturally, some cake). From there, it was on to King’s Heath High Street for brunch at The Early Bird Bakery, a browse around the independents and a stop at Enki for homeware and gifts.

They rounded things off at Blow Water Café, bringing a taste of East Asia to this lively corner of Birmingham.

It’s the kind of day that gives you a bit of everything - fresh air, good food, creativity and plenty of local character.

From Handsworth Park memories to serving up fiery jerk at events across the West Midlands, Adrian’s story is rooted in flavour, culture and heritage. 🍗🔥

Inspired by the elders who taught him the craft, Adrian started the West Midlands Jerk Centre, bringing the flavours, sounds and spirit of Caribbean culture to events across the region.

For Adrian, jerk is about more than just food. It’s the memories of Handsworth Park, the sound systems, the rhythms and that unmistakable sweet aroma filling the air. It’s about taking time, too – with his meat marinated for at least 24 hours to let those flavours really sink in.

Just a short walk from Coventry city centre, you’ll find Fargo Village – a creative hub filled with independent businesses, makers and cafés.

Among them is Sugar & Spice, a boutique artisan tea room founded by local food enthusiast Shiksha. 🍰

After spending six years living in London, Shiksha returned to her hometown wanting to bring back what she’d learned about food and culture – and put her own spin on it.

At Sugar & Spice, traditional bakes meet global flavours, with spice and influences from her heritage making their way into the menu.

“I do use parts of my heritage with Sugar and Spice,” Shiksha says. “The spice elements definitely make us unique.”

For Shiksha, it’s not just about the food. It’s about creating something in the city she calls home.

“Coventry is home. It’s always felt very friendly, very welcoming to me. And I think as a city, we’re incredibly proud.”
