Leaving the vibrant streets of Phuket Old Town behind, the journey to Koh Lanta involved a ferry, a speedboat, and a rather chaotic transfer. We eventually made it and dropped our bags in these little bungalows.

I always aim to give an honest perspective on my travels. The truth is, Koh Lanta just didn't click for me. I felt it lacked real attractions, and the atmosphere felt a bit hollow. It might be controversial to say, but the crowd that comes here solely to smoke cannabis really changes the dynamic of the island. The heavily marketed 'laid-back' vibe is something I struggle to understand when so many local spots sit completely empty.

It is actually quite sobering to walk around. The local economy clearly struggles, while the big-name resort brands seem to capture all the revenue. Unless you are tucked away inside a massive hotel, there really is not much going on.

Overall, it was not my favourite stop. I preferred it to Patong, but it falls far short of the authentic character of Phuket Town. Oh well, every destination is a learning curve and it is all part of the experience.

Bags packed again. Next stop: Krabi! 🌴🚤🎒

PHUKET TOWN PHOTO DUMP 📸 If you are heading to Phuket, do not forget to explore the town! 🏮🏛️

While the coastal shores are iconic, there is an entirely different rhythm waiting for you inland. I loved wandering past the Sino-Portuguese buildings, trying spicy ice cream 🔥, and ending the day in the crowds under red lanterns at probably the best organised street market yet.🥇

It was a much welcomed break from the busy beaches of Patong to experience the much more tranquil, civilised pace of Phuket Town. Overall it offers a more wholesome, family-focused experience with wonderful hospitality (a huge thank you to the team at ibis Styles for the lovely towel elephant welcome!).

With that said... even surrounded by world-class Thai cuisine, we still managed to sneak in a chicken Caesar wrap and a full English breakfast one morning. Old habits die hard! 🥓☕😂

And off on the boat to Koh Lanta I went... That's for next time! ⛵
