In our latest, and hugely inspiring Care in Focus film, a young person supported at Cotswold Spa Hospital takes us on a tour of the specialist in-patient eating disorder service.

During her tour she shows us around the service, telling us about her experiences of daily life at the hospital, including how much she enjoys attending school there.

She also tells us about her routines, her activities and what every-day life looks like for her at the service. Finally, she shares her ambitions for the future and what she finds inspiring.

We’re pleased to share that Elysium’s Rhodes Wood Hospital, a CYPMHS specialist service in Hatfield, has been graded as ‘good’ across all areas by regulator the CQC.

The hospital’s CYPMHS wards were inspected in the areas of ‘safe’ and ‘well-lead’ in its latest inspection earlier this month and both were rated Good, joining all other areas of inspection which also hold the same grading.

Inspectors noted the proactive learning culture at Rhodes Wood, along with its effective systems, processes and practices.

A huge well done to the team at Rhodes Wood Hospital for their dedication and hard work.

Elysium Healthcare is proud to share that Rhodes Wood Hospital has been rated Good by the CQC in all areas.

The second annual Elysium North-West 5-a-Side Football Tournament was a resounding success with teams coming from across the region for a day of friendly competition, goals and fantastic skills.

Hosted at Victoria Gardens, there was talent, team spirit and lots of sunshine on show. Among the competitors lacing up their boots were women service users from four different North West Elysium hospitals, along with players and supporters from Gateway Recovery Centre, St Mary’s Hospital, The Spinney, Victoria Gardens, Crossley Place and Arbury Court.

There was footwork and flair a-plenty with the winners in the women’s tournament from Arbury Court. And in the men’s competition, a free-flowing side from The Spinney took home the trophy.

The tournament is a testament not only to teamwork but also to the powerfully positive effects of outdoor activity. This was a day of shared laughter, confidence building and the joy of togetherness.

Throughout August, we’re considering nutrition and its vital links to overall health – both mental and physical.

Earlier this year we spoke with Elysium’s Group Hotel Services Manager George De Battista, about his team’s innovative educational best practice days his team experience and the role they play in benefiting the people we support.

In this short blog, he shares how making sure people’s nutrition and meals not only meet their physical health needs, but are also enjoyable, is a key focus for his team.

Throughout August we’re exploring healthy eating and healthy living.

Elysium is committed to the nutritional wellbeing of the people we support and we’re continually looking for ways to encourage healthier eating habits and to help service users engage with cooking.

At The Limes, they’ve found a way to do this while also raising awareness of physical health. Here, Louise Hamilton, Hospital Director at The Limes, explains how the service’s innovative ‘Fakeaway’ sessions are helping people eat more healthily and gain skills for the future.

We spoke with Kate Hall, a Specialist Dietitian working with the team at Thornford Park. She shares the role of the British Dietetic Association’s Work Ready programme in helping those providing care make sure they look after themselves, to help them optimally look after others.

Real world, paid work experience opportunities have had a positive impact on the life of a person supported at Elysium’s Aberbeeg service, and in today’s Care in Focus, a gentleman supported at Aberbeeg shares his story.

In it he explains how working out in the open air, tending to the hospital’s animals, including donkeys and goats, is a positive commitment to make – and one in which he takes pride.

He shares that he has made ‘marvellous progress’ since coming to Aberbeeg, and that much of it is down to working with the animals.
