Our current Mongolia tour started well. We had great sightings of some nice birds in Ulaanbaatar and Terelj including Azure Tit, Long-tailed Rosefinch, Daurian Redstart, White-backed and Black Woodpeckers, Eastern Buzzard, Pine Bunting and Taiga Flycatcher among others. The flowers and butterflies are also really spectacular at this time of year.

The team and our group after a successful day in the remote Altai Mountains.

During the first two days, we saw Snow Leopard, Eagle Owl with chicks, Pallas’s Sandgrouse, Grey-necked Bunting, Lammergeier on the nest, Himalayan Griffon, Siberian Ibex, Saiga Antelope, and Black-tailed Gazelle.

The group also enjoyed a beautiful cultural event with traditional music. Our guide, Mate, even took a quick lesson in how to play the famous horsehead violin.

The famous Dobrogea area, along the Black Sea coast of Romania, one of Europe's finest birding area with a variety of superb habitats including steppes, forests, gorges, alkaline-saline wetlands, lagoons, fresh water lakes and its consequently supports an incredible bird life, and during migration its even better... Attila is there with a party of US birders enjoying some great sightings of flocks of Broad-billed and Curlew Sandpipers, Ruddy Shelduck, Collared Pratincoles, Paddifield Warblers, Bllack-headed and Ortolan Bunting, Calandra and Short-toed Larks to name a few. Raptors are performing well too, the scenic Cheia gorge producing superb close views of Booted Eagle, and Levant Sparrowhawk. They will move on deep into the Danube Delta UNESCO World Heritage Site for another 3 nights to enjoy what the Worlds largest reed ecosystem has to offer.
Discovering this vast area can be done only by a floating hotel, or staying ashore deep in the Delta and using small motor boats as there are no roads going there.

Not the nicest shots of the world’s largest wild sheep species, the Argali, but bearing in mind that it can sometimes be difficult to see them even in their prime habitat, spotting them like this from the garden of our hotel on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar is great fun!

Our guide Mate and the 7 clients haven’t even started our first 2026 Snow Leopard and birding tour in Mongolia yet.

The Wapitis, Siberian Rubythroat, Black-faced Bunting, Azure Tit, Amur Falcon, Dusky, Pallas’s and Arctic Warblers, stunning Long-tailed Rosefinches, White-cheeked Starling, Wryneck, White-crowned Penduline Tit, and a family of Corsac Foxes are just bonuses for the “arrival day”.

We had a great time with our Romania birds and wildlife group, traveling on a Victor Emanuel Nature Tours trip, in the bear hide in Transylvania. Wallcreeper and Balkan Chamois were also seen today.

Another superb day for our EWH group in Bhutan. We saw a Leopard cat, a Yellow-throated marten and had fabulously close views of Beautiful nuthatch and Wreathed hornbill.

Red panda! Bhutan just keeps on giving. Today we had a Red panda performing stunningly for our group. We were watching it yawning, scratching and sleeping for a good thirty minutes.

Incredible day for our group in Bhutan. We had fantastic views of Himalayan monal, Satyr tragopan and Blood pheasant. Having a picnic breakfast against the snowy peaks of the Himalayas was also a unique experience.

Attila just returned from guiding a birding tour in Morocco. The weather has been challenging with snow, rain and strong winds, but we still managed to see a good deal of great species. We also visited the historic cities of Marrakech and Meknes, the amazing sand dunes at Merzouga and the gorges of the High Atlas. Morocco is a fascinating country with rich natural and cultural history.

Exciting news from the world of lepidoptery!
A newly described species has just been named in honor of Hungarian novelist - and 2025 Nobel laureate - László Krasznahorkai.
The name pays tribute to his latest book, “The Security of the Hungarian Nation", where a lepidopterist plays a central role. One of the protagonists, who even shares the author’s name, embarks on a quest for the origins of life.
The choice is especially meaningful: both Krasznahorkai and the researcher, Szabolcs Sáfián who named the species come from the same hometown, Gyula in Eastern Hungary, and share a life path marked by curiosity, learning, and a sense of being slightly out of place in the world they seek to understand.
Sáfi is an old friend of ours and occasionally guides our butterfly tours.
This is a beautiful intersection of science and literature — and a touching tribute to one of Hungary’s greatest living writers.
Congratulations to both of them.
