Conrad Athens, The Ilisian (Spotlight)

Destination Spotlight: An Athens landmark reopens with the Acropolis in the window. ✦

We're keeping a close eye on Conrad Athens, The Ilisian, the reborn hotel that, as the old Hilton Athens, defined the Ilisia neighbourhood for decades. 🕶️

A great deal of the city's recent history passed through its lobby, and now it returns refreshed, with rooms that look out toward the Acropolis lit gold in the evening. Athens has changed enormously in the last few years, and a landmark hotel reopening at this moment says something about where the city is heading. The view, of course, has not changed at all.

The same skyline, a new reason to wake up to it. Some reopenings are worth the wait.

At Agent Nouveau, we pin the rooms where the window does half the work. 🖤

⟡ The Wine Became the Reason

Global wine tourism is now a sector worth around fifty-one billion dollars a year. The interesting part is not the number. It is what the number describes.

For a long time, wine was a stop on a holiday. A morning out from the city, a tasting on a schedule, a clock running over the whole thing. That has quietly changed. Wine tourism now accounts for roughly a quarter of global winery revenue, which means the estates that pay attention are building the visit itself, not just selling the bottle. The wine, the valley and the table have become the reason for the journey.

Our new Travel Intelligence piece on wine travel growing up.

Azuma Farm Koiwai — Iwate, Japan (Journey)

Some journeys take you to the famous places; this one takes you somewhere you've never heard of. 🖤

We're dreaming of northern Japan this morning... and of Azuma Farm Koiwai, a new hotel folded into a 135-year-old working dairy farm in Iwate, a region most travellers skip entirely.

Imagine waking on one of the country's oldest farms, where the rhythm is set by the land rather than the timetable. This is the quieter Japan, far from the bullet-train circuit of Tokyo and Kyoto, where the seasons are the main event and the food comes from a few fields away. Getting there is part of it: the further north you go, the more the country opens up and slows down.

The Japan everyone visits, and then the Japan that stays with you. This is firmly the second.

At Agent Nouveau, we bring together the corners of a country that don't make the obvious list. ✦

⟡ Stay in the valley

The common mistake is basing yourself in Cape Town and driving out for the day. An hour each way, a designated driver who cannot taste a thing, and a clock running over the whole table.

The Winelands reward the opposite. Stay in the valley. Give it days rather than hours. Let the afternoons run their natural length, with no drive home hanging over the last glass. Travelled this way, the region restores rather than depletes... and that is the version worth planning.

Six Senses London (Spotlight)

Destination Spotlight: A Victorian department store becomes a London sanctuary. ✦

We're keeping a close eye on Six Senses London, newly arrived inside the historic Whiteleys building in Bayswater. 🕶️

Whiteleys was one of the capital's grand department stores, and the bones of it survive: the Victorian detailing, the scale, the sense of a building that has watched a great deal of London pass by. Inside, the Six Senses approach takes over, all wellness, sleep, and a quiet that feels improbable for central London. It's the brand's first city hotel here, and the contrast between the old shell and the calm within is the whole point.

A grand old address, given over to rest. London doesn't offer many of those.

At Agent Nouveau, we build the city stays that send you home steadier than you arrived. 🖤

Four Seasons Cartagena (Spotlight)

Destination Spotlight: Seven heritage buildings, one Four Seasons. ✦

We're keeping a close eye on the new Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Cartagena, opened in the Getsemaní neighbourhood of Colombia's most beautiful colonial city. 🕶️

Rather than build new, Four Seasons took seven heritage landmark buildings and brought them together into one hotel. The result threads through the old streets: 131 rooms and suites, several pools, a spa, and eight bars and restaurants including a rooftop made for the early evening. Getsemaní is the part of Cartagena with the most life in it, all bougainvillea, colonial balconies, and music after dark.

A hotel that belongs to its streets rather than standing apart from them. That's harder to do, and worth seeking out.

At Agent Nouveau, we bring together the cities and the rooms that suit each other. 🖤

Destination Spotlight: Aman trades the desert and the city for a ranch. ✦

We're keeping a close eye on Amansanu, Aman's first ranch retreat, set in the rolling limestone hills of Texas Hill Country about ninety minutes northwest of Austin. 🕶️

The name means "peaceful peak", and the brief reads like a new direction for a brand best known for desert canyons and city sanctuaries. Standalone pavilions by Olson Kundig follow the contours of the land. There's an Aman spa, multiple dining concepts, and the first fully serviced stables Aman has built anywhere, with riding trails through the creeks and canyons beyond.

No opening date yet, which is exactly when it's worth knowing about. The early conversations happen long before the doors open.

At Agent Nouveau, we source the early access for clients who like to be first through the door. 🖤

⟡ Lunch as the destination

Franschhoek takes its name from the French corner, after the Huguenots who arrived in 1688 with vine cuttings, surnames that still appear on the labels, and a way of eating that took its time. The valley kept the habit.

A good long lunch starts late and refuses to hurry. A table on a shaded stoep, courses arriving when they are ready rather than when the kitchen wants the table back, a bottle from the estate you are sitting on, and a view that does most of the talking. By the time coffee comes the afternoon has gone, and that was the plan.

⟡ The distance is part of the point

South Africa is a long way to go, and that is precisely why it rewards the traveller who stays. A fortnight there, the city and the winelands and the long slow afternoons, returns more than a string of short hops ever could.

The long trip is not an indulgence. It is the better use of the same time and the same money. Further, and then slower once you land... and you come home restored, rather than barely having had time to feel the place at all.

Borgo Egnazia, Puglia (Journey)

Some places are designed to impress; this one is designed to feel like it has always been there. 🖤

We're dreaming of Puglia this morning... and of Borgo Egnazia, the hotel built to look and feel like a southern Italian village that time forgot.

Imagine a cluster of whitewashed stone buildings, courtyards opening onto courtyards, and the kind of layout where you lose your bearings happily for a few days. It was built recently, yet it reads as if generations have already passed through. There are pools and a spa, but the real pleasure is the rhythm: long lunches, the heat of the afternoon, a passeggiata before dinner. It works for couples and for three generations travelling together, which is rarer than it sounds.

A made village that feels found. That's the trick, and they pull it off.

At Agent Nouveau, we shape the holidays that carry families and couples at the same pace. ✦
