_ VE Day

With celebration and remembrance taking place across the country today, we thought we would share with you the beautiful installation at the memorial garden situated between the villages of Windermere and Bowness. A joint community effort to mark

The different coloured poppies symbolism;

The red poppy is a symbol of remembrance and hope – a belief that the lives that were lost to wars of the past have paved the way for a more stable present and peaceful future.

Yellow poppies are relevant to VE Day celebrations in remembrance of the women who worked in munitions factories during World War II, often referred to as “munitionettes”

The purple poppy is worn to remember animals that were victims of war, especially horses and dogs, who played various roles in the war effort.

The white poppy also serves as a symbol of remembrance, they specifically highlight the human cost of war, both civilian and military, and advocate for peace.
