One Girl One Rucksack One World

One Girl One Rucksack One World Yorkshire lass. Loves a bargain. Emotionally dependent on Skyscanner. Solo travel helped me face my anxiety fears, turns out they don’t accept budget airlines.

Had a quick scroll through Skyscanner on my dinner break at work and nearly choked on my sandwich when I found return flights to Italy in August for around £40. During the school holidays too. 😮🇮🇹

For a brief moment I considered it, before remembering I’m a ginger who starts looking nervous when the UK temperature hits 22°C.

An Italian August would be less “relaxing holiday” and more “human sundried tomato” by lunchtime. 🍅☀️

Thought I’d share it on here in case it helps someone bag a bargain.

The goal isn’t designer handbags. It’s wandering around Italy in Primark clobber, looking like I’ve been dragged backwards through a hedge, eating my weight in pasta, and somehow feeling happier than ever. Because the best memories don’t care what you’re wearing. ❤️🇮🇹

One of the questions I get asked most is, “Do you actually have a job?”

Yes. A full-time one. 😂

Despite what Facebook might suggest, I’m not rich, retired, a secret millionaire, or funding my travels through photos of my t**s.

The reality is much less exciting.

I work bloody hard. Early mornings, late nights, emails, deadlines, and enough meetings that could have been emails to make me question the entire corporate system.

The reason it looks like I’m always travelling is because I treat annual leave like it's the last trolley at Aldi. If there's some available, I'm taking it.

Every January, while everyone else is setting fitness goals, I'm looking at the bank holiday calendar like a mathematician who's just discovered a new formula.

People always ask how I do it.

The answer is simple.

I exchange large chunks of my sanity for annual leave.

Facebook sees the cocktails in the sunshine.

It doesn't see me on a Tuesday morning, sat in my dressing gown before work, calculating whether a city break is cheaper than therapy.

I haven't won the lottery.

I don't have a trust fund.

I just work hard and suffer from a condition known as "I'll just have a quick look at flights."

Symptoms include:
Booking trips you hadn't planned.
Knowing airport codes better than colleagues' birthdays.
Saying "that's my last trip this year" at least six times a year.

So yes, I have a full-time job.

I just refuse to save all the fun for “one day.”

Because one day has a habit of turning into never. ✈️🌍

A lot of you lovely lot keep saying I should write a book about my travels.

It’d be the story of a Yorkshire lass and her trusty rucksack, Clive, ricocheting around Europe on flights so cheap you’re half expecting to flap your own wings.

Inside there’d be wrong turns, wrong trains, wrong buses, the sort of decisions that keep my mam awake at night, and a remarkable ability to get lost while looking directly at a map.

Somewhere amongst the chaos, near-disasters and “it seemed like a good idea at the time” moments, there’d also be some cracking hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path places that make the whole circus worthwhile.

The only problem is I’m not sure whether it’d belong in the travel section, the comedy section, or a file marked “Reasons My Mother Worries.”

So, be honest… would you buy a copy?

Or would my mam be the only customer, using it to level the wobbly table while muttering, “At least it’s finally doing something useful.” 😂🎒✈️

I honestly can’t quite believe that a normal Yorkshire lass and a battered old rucksack called Clive are closing in on 50,000 followers. 😮🎒

When I started this page, it was never about numbers. It was simply a way of documenting my solo adventures, keeping myself accountable, and showing that anxiety doesn’t have to stop you from seeing the world.

I also wanted to prove that travel doesn’t have to cost a fortune. You don’t need luxury hotels, business class flights or a bank balance that would make your accountant cry. Sometimes all you need is a bit of courage, a rough plan and a rucksack that’s seen better days.

What I never expected was for so many of you to come along for the ride.

Nearly 50,000 people have chosen to follow my adventures, my mishaps, my budget travel tips, my battles with anxiety and my occasional inability to read a map properly. That’s absolutely bonkers when you think about it.

To every one of you who likes, comments, messages, shares posts or quietly follows along, thank you. Some of your messages have genuinely made me laugh out loud, some have brought a tear to my eye, and many have reminded me why I started this journey in the first place.

As for the trolls… well, they do pop up occasionally. Usually with the confidence of someone who’s just conquered Everest, when in reality they’ve only managed to conquer the comments section from their sofa. 😂

I used to let them bother me. Now I just think it’s quite impressive that a Yorkshire woman with a rucksack can have such a dramatic impact on someone’s day. Imagine explaining that one to your mates down the pub.

The truth is, the trolls are massively outnumbered by the genuinely lovely people on this page. The support, encouragement and kindness I’ve received over the years has far outweighed any negativity.

What started as one anxious woman trying to be brave has grown into a community of people cheering each other on, sharing travel dreams, swapping tips and proving that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for every bit of support you’ve shown me and Clive along the way. I appreciate every single one of you more than you’ll ever know. ❤️

Off to Limoges this weekend for a 36-hour French adventure. It started life as a solo trip, but like a budget airline booking, extra passengers have mysteriously appeared and we’re now a trio.

Flying out Saturday morning, back Sunday evening. From what I’ve read, the airport buses seem to operate on a “you’ll be lucky” basis, so a taxi may be required. Thankfully, there are now three of us, which means my Yorkshire genes can stop calculating the fare every five minutes. 🚕💸

Flights £44 return, apartment £36 each. Even my Yorkshire genes briefly stopped asking for a spreadsheet. 📊😂

Any Limoges tips from my wonderful followers? Best food, bars, sights, hidden gems, or anything that’s worth squeezing into a very short visit?

Merci in advance! 🇫🇷🍷🥖

I spend half my life telling everyone how wonderful Italy is, then Yorkshire pipes up with, “Tha’s forgotten where tha came from.”

Italy may have stolen my heart, but Yorkshire still has a spare key… and apparently knows how to let itself in. 🔑❤️

Made even better with my girl R Doris 🐶 by my side.

Throwback to Giovinazzo 🇮🇹✨

One of those places that wasn’t supposed to be the highlight of the trip… and then completely stole the show.
