DID YOU KNOW BREAN DOWN HAS A FORT WITH A HISTORY SPANNING OVER 150 YEARS?

Today, Brean Down is one of Somerset’s most spectacular coastal walks, but high above the Bristol Channel sits a fascinating reminder of Britain’s military past!

🌿 Brean Down is a dramatic limestone headland stretching out into the Bristol Channel, offering spectacular views across the coast.

🏰 Brean Down Fort was built in the 1860s as part of a chain of coastal defences designed to protect the ports of Bristol and Cardiff.

⚓ The fort was intended to help defend the Bristol Channel from enemy ships, although it never fired a shot in anger.

💥 During the Second World War, the site was used again, including for weapons testing and military experiments.

🥾 Today, you can walk across Brean Down to explore the remains of the fort and enjoy incredible views towards Weston-super-Mare, Steep Holm and Flat Holm.

Sometimes you just find a place you really love, and you can’t quite explain why. ❤️

That’s Brean for us. Give it a few hours here and you’ll see what we mean. Miles of unspoilt beach, fresh sea air, family amusements if you want some fun, and plenty of space to just switch off. 🌊

🐾 And of course, it’s all year round, so the dogs can enjoy it too!
