I'm happy to report that Geoff was finally laid to rest on Thursday at the Anglican Church of St George in Baghdad.

I'm happy for Jim Fitton annd his family, but angry and distraught beyond words for Geoff. The Iraqis got it wrong, they shouldn't have arrested anyone, the courts have now confirmed that no crime was committed. Except the crime of refusing a seriously ill 85 year old man repatriation for medical treatment, which led to his death. I am relieved that Jim can finally go home to his family, but distraught that Geoff is still on a slab in a mortuary. The papers say that the Foreign Office worked tirelessly behind the scenes for Jim, as they should have done, yet I can't even get a proper death certificate or Geoff's possessions. He died for nothing, no explanation as to why they wouldn't let him onto the Medievac flight or why he was arrested the day before he died, no apology - nothing. Its so unfair and it just adds to our heartbreak. Will we ever get the closure we need?

I am happy to be able to tell you that St George's Church in Baghdad have offered to bury Geoff in their cemetery, a kind offer which we have accepted. Geoff and I visited the church on one of our trips to Iraq and the people their were so friendly, showing us round and telling us about the church. It is a special place and a fitting resting place for him. I'm sure he would agree.

Just a thank you to all Geoffs friends and fellow travellers for all your kind comments and messages. Several have asked what has happened since he died. Geoff remains in Baghdad, he is still in the mortuary as no paperwork has been forthcoming from the Iraqis and so arrangements cannot be for burial, winding up his affairs etc. His belongings remain unaccounted for. So apologies that the website has not been taken down or updated, nothing is possible without death certification.
