Check out on Tuesday 18 February at UK time 20.00. I will be answering questions about the ClickAway Pound Survey results for 2019.

06/02/2020

The new ClickAway Pound report 2019 is now live at HTTP://www.clickawaypound.com

The results are disappointing and show no change from 2016. Is it now time to change the law as clearly the business case and Equality Act have failed to change things. What do you think?

Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, post links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.

We will be publishing the results of the latest survey shortly.Disappointingly though don't expect major changes from the original survey. The amount of money involved has massively increased and the way that people access online shopping has changed significantly but apart from that we have to say business still isn't listening. The 2019 CAP survey turns a bright light on telecoms companies. Good or bad, love them or hate them, we can't live without them! But can they live without disabled people with access needs?

I kept a log of my experiences of website and app inaccessibility over the past year. The list is, as you would imagine, very long. However, I've posted a short selection - just follow the link.
https://www.abilitynet.org.uk/news-blogs/my-personal-experience-inaccessible-websites

There are many many more but the list gets boring to read as it is repetitive to say the least. However, you get the idea I'm sure.

These aren't small organisations and the impact on the business and the user are well demonstrated.

It is so frustrating this problem still exists. Maybe we should change the law and be more like the US in its approach to the issue.

So the Survey has been open for a month now and we thought you might be interested in two quotes In particular

"Some small companies are easy to contact and talk to about access issues. The big ones don’t seem to care. And talking to the right person is impossible."

"Some apps are easier to use than the equivalent sites, but some are not usable at all. I often feel frustrated and like a second-class customer as they don't seem to care about me or my requirements."

There are others that are similar but is this the experience of all those who have access needs? We need as many people as possible to take part in the Survey; the more responses the more credible and persuasive the findings. Spread the word and encourage people to get involved .. and they might win one of our prizes . .

£446 million was the total displaced on-line spending over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend for those sites and apps which still present barriers to on-line shoppers with access needs. Why do business's continue to build sites with barriers? IT seems perverse to give an advantage to competitors, damage PR and risk legal challenge? Oh yes and not to mention alienate millions of people who want to buy things but find it hard because of the way sites and apps are designed.

We need as many people as possible to do the Survey and change the world - well at least those sites which are still creating barriers.
http://www.clickawaypound.com is the place to go and tell us about the issues and maybe win a voucher in the prize draw

Researching the online shopping experience of people with disabilities

31/10/2018

Coming soon! This she is Clickaway Pound survey is about to launch. Watch this space for more details. We want to see whether things have changed from when we found out the startling reality of accessing the Internet for 4.1 million disabled people with access needs.

17/08/2018

It was announced on 16th August this year that 20% of retail annual spend in the UK was online. It continues to be a mystery, therefore, why so many retailers websites continue to be inaccessible or unusable. Given that over 70% of disabled shoppers with access needs simply go elsewhere when they experience barriers on websites it should be a no-brainer the retail sites should be accessible. Talk to us about how we can help you make your site accessible and usable and give you a competitive edge.

14/08/2018

All of our research indicates that to ensure disabled people with access needs can use a website you need to get them to test it first. You cannot just rely on WCAG testing programs or methodology. We have now established a whole series of panels with disabled website testers ready and waiting so just get in touch and insure your site maximises its commercial benefits and minimise risk of PR and legal damage.
