In Sussex dialect these little lanes are called 'Twittens.' This probably comes from the German 'Zwischen' or between. Ones with steps can also be called 'Cat creeps' although this is not as well known, with many people growing up in Brighton and not hearing the term. , , , ,

St Peters Church Preston from the 13th Century. It contains rare medieval images, including the martydom of St Thomas Beckett, who was killed for defending the rights of the church against the king. My grandad Geoff in the early 1950s. He was a bus conductor. He would go round the bus while it was moving to collect tickets fees. The back of the bus was open and he got good at jumping off the bus while it was moving. In the summer he was on the white double decker open top number 17 bus that went along the seafront. , , , , tours, , , , , , ,
