This is the third piece that I will exhibit as part of the Cornish Sacred Landscape show in Penzane on 19th to 21st of June.
Rillaton Barrow is a Bronze age burial mound on Bodmin moor.
The folk story attached to Rillaton Barrow tells of a Druid with an ever replenishing gold cup. The Druid would offer refreshments to those in need on the moor.
One day a cocky huntsman approached the Druid, looking to quench his thirst. In an act of machismo he attempted to drain the gold cup. His ego dented by his failed efforts, dashed the drink in the Druids face and fled on his horse clasping the cup, only to fall off a ravine that same day.
Excavations of Rillaton Barrow in 1839 discovered the remains of a human and several burial goods. Including a gold cup.
