Bristol Birdman is officially returning to the Floating Harbour this Sunday. 🪂⚓

The annual human-powered flying machine event is back on Sunday, 14th June, bringing together local businesses, charities, and community teams to raise funds for young people across the city. Competitors will launch their custom-built contraptions made entirely from recycled and repurposed materials straight into the water.

🪂 The Event: Flying attempts will take place between 11 AM and 3 PM, with the final awards presented at 2:30 PM.
💡 Good to know: Entry is completely free for spectators, with all proceeds from raffles and merchandise directly supporting Grassroot Communities CIC. You can also tune in to the live stream via the charity's YouTube channel.

Several private communal gardens in Clifton and Hotwells are opening to the public this weekend. 🌳🏡

You can walk through green squares usually hidden behind the area's elegant Georgian terraces, taking in peaceful urban havens that are normally closed off to the public—including Arlington Gardens, The Polygon and Royal York Crescen. Alongside the gardens themselves, many locations will be offering refreshments, stalls, live music, and local talks.

🎟️ The Details: The event runs from June 6 to 7, between 10.30am and 5pm, granting rare access to these private residential spaces.

💡 Good to know: Tickets cost £7 and are available during the event from under the archway on Boyce’s Avenue in Clifton Village.

Bristol University Tower Tour with the excellent Gary guiding us around the great hall, the law library and the highlight: climbing the steep spiral staircase up to see Great George - the 7th heaviest bell in the UK at 9 and a half tonnes.
