Wheelchair accessible route along the SW Coastal Path from Goodrington Sands Beach to the meadow above Oyster Cove.
Either park at Goodrington Sands Carpark,or if it’s busy than there’s the long stay Cliff Park Rd Car park on Cliff Park Road. Just up from the end of Goodrington South Sands Beach.
The walk/wheel goes up & down some steep slopes. My Sunrise Q300R power wheelchair managed them. Some care is needed as there were some slopes with loose gravel & sand, which made them a little slippy. The meadow above Oyster Cove is short grass. It was very dry when I went so my Sunrise Q300R power wheelchair managed the paths. In the winter I imagine they will be muddy. Due to the steepness of the coastal path it would not be suitable for less powerful powerchairs or manual chairs. Unless you are extremely fit.
To avoid steps at the start of the coastal path at the end of Goodrington Sands South Beach Promenade. Go up Cliff Park Road away from the beach, up to the main Dartmouth road, turn left & go past the row of shops, & take the first turning on the left down Barn Rd.
Follow Barn Rd down to the end & turn right into The Saddle Road.
Go down The Saddle until reach the T junction. Turn left into Horseshoe Bend Rd
Go along Horseshoe Bend until you see a footpath on the right, just after where Horse Shoe Bend road bends around to the right.
Go down the footpath which runs along the side of buildings & it takes you down to the SW coastal path.
If you turn left down the coastal path you will have amazing views over Goodrington & Torbay. There are steps further down the coastal path in that direction, so we turned back and went back to the footpath just down from Horseshoe Bend.
The footpath goes straight down & over the Dartmouth Steam Railway bridge into Oyster Cove Meadow. The Meadow has short grass paths around & across the meadow. There are benches located around the meadow. There’s beautiful views across Torbay. It’s a good place for dog walking & popular with locals.
The SW coastal path then runs from the meadow path along the coast heading in the direction of Broadsands.
I went up & down a steep hill, more beautiful views across Torbay.
From Saltern Cove up to Armchair Cove & Rock the coastal pathway is a long flight of steps. So I had to turn around & return to the meadow.
It’s not a very long walk/ wheel 0.4 miles, because of steps, but it has such beautiful views of Goodrington & over Torbay. It’s a place to go for rest & relaxation at one of the viewing points; or the meadow is a good place to go for a dog walk. Dogs seemed to love exploring the meadow, while owners sat & enjoyed the views.
I will definitely go back as I enjoyed relaxing & enjoying the amazing views.
