Our Story
This luxurious bespoke built self catering cottage is in an idyllic location, situated on top of our croft with a stunning view of Broadford Bay, which is one of Scotland’s finest, most unspoilt nature havens. The perfect spot to watch the sunset on a cold crisp winter’s evening or warm summer’s night. Located on a working croft with ever increasing numbers of livestock there is always a supply of fresh eggs that can be dropped up to the cottage every morning if requested.
Dark Skye cottage was designed and built to the highest standards by the Macphie family and a few local craftsman. It was started several years ago and in keeping with the west coast traditions and way of life was completed only 4 years behind schedule! The cottage was designed from the outset with luxury holiday lets in mind. Although the cottage is a new-build (completed at the end of 2017), the outside is modelled on the traditional croft houses found all over the west coast of Scotland and it blends in perfectly with its surroundings. The inside layout makes perfect use of every space and the open plan nature creates a lovely relaxing environment giving you a very unique and special holiday on the beautiful Isle of Skye.
The cottage is run by Gordon Macphie (with some help from both his mum and his girlfriend) a native of the Isle of Skye. Gordon returned to the island in order to establish a whisky sales business as well as continue the family tradition of crofting. His forefathers were stonemasons who were brought to the Island by Macleod Estates to work on Dunvegan Castle and other estate properties. Crofting (small scale farming unique to the Scottish Highlands and Islands) does not and did not provide sufficient income on its own and has always had to be supplemented by other activities.
