6 June 1881: JUSTICE OF THE PEACE COURT At the JP Court held in Cullen today, Mr Alexander Young, fishcurer, Buckie, was charged with keeping a dog on 10th March last without a licence, thereby rendering himself if liable to a penalty of £5. Defendant appeared and pled guilty. Before the Magistrates made their decision, Mr Alexander Baillie, superintendant of Portsoy District, appearing on behalf of the Inland Revenue, explained that Mr Young had been twice reminded of the expiry of his licence, and although only charged with keeping one dog without a licence had in reality two in his possession. Baillie Grant remarked that the case was clearly not one of ignorance, and as they saw no extenuating circumstances, they felt bound to impose a fine of £2 10s, which they accordingly did.
