🌴 Suitree Experience Hotel, Guanacaste, Costa Rica 🇨🇷

What an incredible way to finish our Costa Rica adventure! 🌅

Set in Guanacaste, close to the beach, Suitree Experience Hotel is a small, ultra-luxury property offering something completely different — beautiful treehouse-style accommodation surrounded by nature and wildlife. 🌿🐒🦜

From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The staff were genuinely amazing and made us feel like part of the family throughout our stay. ❤️

Despite being a luxury escape, there’s so much to experience. We spotted monkeys, birds and plenty of wildlife, went out on beach quad bikes, experienced a nighttime wildlife tour, spent time swimming and, of course, watched some incredible Costa Rican sunsets. 🌅

The food was also a huge part of the experience, with a real focus on elevated dining and local flavours.

✨ My take: Suitree is perfect for someone looking for a small, exclusive luxury property with a difference. Unique accommodation, exceptional food, incredible service and nature right on your doorstep.

It’s the kind of place where the accommodation is an experience in itself — and the sunset wasn’t bad either! 🌴🌅🇨🇷

🌴 NEXT STOP: GUANACASTE — BEACHES, SUN & ADVENTURE ☀️🏝️

And just like that… we swapped the cloud forest for the western coast of Guanacaste.

The drive was around 2 hours, although the roads made it feel considerably longer! 😂

But what a difference in scenery — suddenly the rain and clouds disappeared and we were back to serious heat, sunshine and tropical beach weather. ☀️🌴

We came to this part of Costa Rica for the good stuff:

🏖️ Beautiful beaches
🐒 Monkeys
🏍️ Quad biking
🍴 Great food
☀️ And a bit of glorious downtime

It really is the perfect final stop on a Costa Rican adventure — a chance to slow down, soak up the sunshine and enjoy the coast after all the driving, hiking and cloud-forest adventures.

This part of Guanacaste is definitely more touristy, so we were very happy that we chose to stay up in the hills, away from the busiest areas. You still get the spectacular views and easy access to the beaches, but with a much more relaxed feel. 👌

And sadly, this is where our road trip starts winding down…

From here, we’ll be flying home from Liberia’s local airport. We’re flying indirectly again — partly because it saves a few pennies✈️

🌿 NEXT STOP: MONTEVERDE ☁️

From La Fortuna, we headed onwards to Monteverde, taking the scenic route around the spectacular Lake Arenal. 🚙🌋

Around 2 hours 45 minutes of driving, but definitely not a journey you want to rush. The scenery was absolutely stunning — volcanoes, lake views, winding roads and that incredible Costa Rican greenery everywhere you look. 🌴💚

Then came the climb up into the cloud forest… and, well, the clouds were everywhere as was the rain ☁️😂

Monteverde was wet, windy and wonderfully wild. The tropical storms this year have definitely had an impact on the weather, but somehow it just adds to the atmosphere. This is cloud-forest country after all!

And there is plenty to do when you emerge from the clouds:

🦥 Sloth spotting
🌉 Hanging bridges through the forest
🪂 Zip-lining through the canopy
☕ Coffee tours (because obviously!)
🌿 Wandering through the misty cloud forest
☁️ And generally feeling like you’ve stepped into another world

The drive up here was honestly one of the highlights — beautiful, dramatic and a little bit adventurous.

One thing to bear in mind if you’re planning your own trip: the roads can be pretty iffy in places, particularly heading up into Monteverde. So if you’re hiring a car, take it slowly and don’t underestimate the journey.

We opted for a driver again… because sometimes the best luxury is simply sitting back, taking in the view and letting someone else deal with the potholes. 😉🚙

Monteverde… wet, wild and worth the climb. ☁️🇨🇷

🇨🇷 FIRST STOP: LA FORTUNA 🌋🌴

And so our Costa Rica road trip begins…

Getting here was quite the journey. We flew into San José indirectly with United airlines through the USA— although there are direct flights at certain times of the year. ✈️

We cheekily got upgraded to Business Class, which meant we arrived considerably more rested than we otherwise would have after nearly 17 hours of travel. 😴🥂

As we arrived late, we kept it simple and stayed one night in San José — just enough time to shower, sleep and get ourselves road-trip ready.

The next morning, our private driver picked us up and we headed north towards our first proper stop: La Fortuna and Arenal. 🚙

Yes, you can hire a car, but I wanted the completely relaxed option — no navigating, no worrying about directions, just sit back and watch Costa Rica unfold outside the window.

About three hours later, we arrived in La Fortuna… and straight into tropical rain, humidity and lush green jungle. 🌧️

This is volcano country — Arenal volcano towering over the landscape, with rainforest, wildlife, rivers and those famous volcanic hot springs all around. The area is known for everything from hiking and wildlife watching to rafting and river adventures, followed by a very well-earned soak in the thermal waters. 🌋♨️🦥

So this is where the adventure really starts! As you can imagine the river activities had my name all over them 🤣
