So in addition to zinnias this year I also grew strawflowers for the first time. Both thrived in the polytunnel and coped so well in the many heatwaves we had. Strawflowers originate from Australia - hence why they did so well! Highly heat and drought tolerant and very easy to grow. Definitely going to plant more next year to pop in the barns for guests.

As a result of this we are saying no to any BBQs, fires, lanterns, candles, fires, flames etc let’s try and protect the area from Mill Barns Holiday Accommodation

In light of the government ban on disposable BBQs today (along with advice against any fire,flame,candle,lanterns etc) we are unable to offer guests charcoal BBQs during this extreme extended drought period due to the high risk of causing a fire in the area. It has been extremely distressing seeing the fires in Stourbridge (and indeed across Europe) and we do not wish for that to happen in this area. We really do hope all guests understand the current situation. Thank you for your understanding. ☺️Mill Barns Holiday Accommodation prevention

Winston - Born here at Mill Barn in the roof (!) you really were a free spirit being able to roam wherever you wanted, whenever you wanted. You had a wonderful life in your around 18 years on the farm. Loved by guests and neighbours you were everyone’s friend always looking for a cuddle, stroke or food! You had no fear and trusted everyone. You had a few near misses in your time but pulled through, sadly a car wasn’t a match for you this time. In a bizarre coincidence Guy found you in the exact spot of your late mother. You tried to fight for a couple of days but now you are at peace free to roam and climb trees - poignantly laid to rest under the tree you loved to climb on the farm overlooking the bay. Thanks to all during this difficult time including Victoria for handling the end so well for us. Special thanks to whose calm care and compassion we really needed at 6am on Thursday and throughout this upsetting time. What the world needs is more Winston love 💖 ❤️ 💗❤️ 💖

Since the last blog at the beginning of February we have been flat out making changes and getting ready to reopen for 2026. March and Easter turned out to be really busy with lots of mini break bookings - definitely a new trend of 3/4/5 night breaks with bookings very much last minute.
