Visit Staffa, Fingal's Cave and Iona In One Day

Our trips leave for Staffa daily (April-October) with just over 1 hour ashore. It is a 45 minute sea journey to Staffa and Fingal's Cave, which is always splendid and atmospheric with basalt columns formed 59 million years ago. Puffins can be seen ashore in season (from April until the end of July) and guillemots, fulmars, great skuas, eider ducks,

gannets, kittewakes, black-backed gulls, great northern divers and razorbills are often on the water. If you are lucky, you may see the occasional passing whale, basking shark, porpoise, dolphin or otter. In the morning we leave Iona at 09.45 and call at Fionnphort (on Mull) at 10.00 before heading out to Staffa. We're usually back in Fionnphort/Iona just after 13.15. In the afternoon we leave Iona at 13.45 and Fionnphort at 14.00, and arrive back in Fionnphort/Iona at around 17.15. You can disembark at Fionnphort or Iona. Make a day of it by joining the morning trip in Fionnphort and getting off in Iona at lunchtime. Return to Mull on the ferry and you'll only need to pay for a single ticket. If you'd rather visit Iona in the morning, cross on the ferry (again, buying a one way ticket) and we'll drop you back in Fionnphort when we return from Staffa in the evening. There is a free car park in Fionnphort. All trips and landings subject to suitable weather conditions.

Monday morning 6am “School ferry”!Iona high school children go to school in Oban which means leaving Iona at 6am on a Monday and returning 6.30pm on Friday. Everyone dreads the early start but it’s slightly easier on mornings like this!

Happy World Puffin day to those who celebrate! As many of you know, Staffa if home to a colony of several hundred pairs of puffins from sometime in April until the end of July each year, and a trip out there with us allows you to get up close to these charming birds. Unsettled weather has been against us this year, but we stand ready to go as soon as conditions allow. More information on trips and booking can be found at our website. Link in bio!

Yesterday, after a final inspection by the MCA, we sailed Iolaire of Iona from the boatyard at Balvicar, along the south coast of Mull, and back to Iona ready for the coming season. It was a beautiful day for it! We’ve got a few little jobs to finish before trips start again on the 1st of April but, in the meantime, join us for the journey home…
