✨ Client Review: Thanks to our valued customers for taking the time to send us this brilliant review …. A Letta from Valletta ☺️
Just back from an incredible week in Malta — and what a place. We based ourselves in Valletta, the heart of the action, and focused on what we love most: great food, local drinks and easy exploring.
🍽 Food & Drink Highlights
Loved our stay at the Grand Excelsior Hotel with beautiful sea views and a short stroll into the city.
Top restaurant in Valletta: Leglevin — the local tasting menu with Maltese wine flight was a standout.
Best meal of the whole trip: Tartarun Fish Restaurant in Marsaxlokk. Absolutely worth the bus ride (and definitely book ahead).
Street kiosks selling sweet and savoury pastries were a fun late‑night treat — the mushy pea & bacon pie was a favourite.
Malta has a brilliant craft beer scene. Lord Chambray (brewed on Gozo) was everywhere — Buddies, 67Kapital, Honey Beer House and even The Pub, where Oliver Reed had his final drink while filming Gladiator.
Maltese wine was a pleasant surprise. We sampled plenty at Trabuxu, Why Not, Vino’s and Cheers. Trabuxu’s cave bar and cheese platters were a lovely touch.
🍦 Don’t Miss
Some of the world’s best ice cream at La Cremilla.
🗺 Exploring the Island
Valletta is compact, historic and perched high above the sea — expect some hills, but there’s a handy lift (€1 return) to reach the ferries.
Getting around is easy with buses (€2–€2.50 per trip), plus fun vintage 1950s buses running to Mdina and Marsaxlokk.
There’s also a gondola shuttle to the Three Cities, a “big ferry” back if needed, and a fast catamaran to Gozo (45 mins, great senior discounts).
Gozo’s capital Victoria is small but charming — and the Lord Chambray taproom is a must‑stop.
Mdina is beautiful but very touristy.
💬 Final Thoughts
Malta is relaxed, friendly, English‑speaking and easy to navigate. Bring euros as not everywhere takes cards — and remember, it’s Mal‑ta (like “pal”), not “Moll‑ta”.
