Heavy Rain on the Way – A Turning Point for Anglers?

This weekend brings widespread heavy rain, followed by showery spells through the week and more rain next weekend. After a challenging season, this could mark the start of cooler, wetter conditions that anglers and ghillies have been waiting for. Floating lines with small flies or coneheads are producing fish, with Francis and PBP patterns proving popular as we move into September. The lower Tay and Tweed remain strong bets, but if rivers get a proper lift, middle and upper beats should come into play.

Cooler Weather Brings Hope – Tread Lightly for Success.

Low water continues to challenge anglers, but with temperatures easing and showers forecast across the UK & Ireland, conditions could improve as fish become more active. Success will depend on a stealthy approach—think floating lines, long leaders, and small flies, with the option of a heavier conehead or a skated Sunray when needed. The lower Tay remains a strong bet, but keep watching catches and levels as the week develops.
