Upthorpe Lodges Contemporary & Eco-friendly holiday lodges in Suffolk Upthorpe Lodges are the idea of Ian & Debbie Shilling.

Avid fans of Channel 4's Grand Designs, they wanted to create eco-friendly lodges that also offered the best self-catered holiday accommodation possible, within a relatively small space and within their budget. Our quest for great coffee has begun. And what a gem to begin with! We both had a cappuccino; smooth with a hint of bitterness offset by the milky froth and chocolate sprinkles. We loved the American feel and soundtrack of this country cafe, the sausage bap was just the best, and such friendly staff. A great pit stop on our way to the Suffolk coast, and we’ll be back for sure.

Did someone say coffee? ☕️ A recent trip of ours along parts of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way made us appreciate the benefits of seeking out a slightly more distinctive taste than the usual offerings. So, we’ve begun a quest to seek out what Suffolk has that’s worth searching for. We’ll be sure to share our findings with our guests - we think they must be discerning people to have found us in the first place 😊

A summer morning wander from the lodges, through golden fields watched over by a kestrel and a pair of buzzards, on the hunt for their breakfast. We can’t resist the sweet blackberries along the way which serve as a starter, before settling down at Wyken for a delicious coffee and flatbread. Our return may be at a slower pace.
