Bunting, what a topic! Let's talk about bunting, the most exciting thing since sliced bread.

So apparently, bunting comes from the Middle English word "bonten," which means to sift or filter. Great, now I can't stop picturing bunting as a big' filter collecting all the dust and dirt in the air. Yum, nothing like a festive decoration that also serves as an air purifier.

But seriously, who decided that a bunch of triangular or rectangular pieces of fabric strung together was the height of party decor? I mean, sure, it looks cute, but can you imagine all the time and effort it takes to cut those little triangles and rectangles? And then you have to string them together in some sort of coherent pattern?

But hey, I'm not here to rain on anyone's bunting parade, here at the Six Litton Mill - we have some red white and blue plastic of today flapping about thanks to one of our Royalist neighbours!

There is so much history in the Peak District!

On this day (24th April) in 1932, the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass took place on Kinder Scout in the Peak District 🏔️ This marked the beginning of the right-to-roam movement 🥾

Ramblers from the nearby cities of Manchester and Sheffield protested for greater access to the countryside, leading to the establishment of the Peak District as the UK's first National Park two decades later.

Thanks to these pioneers, we can now all enjoy the right to access our beautiful Peak District National Park. We'd like to thank all those who paved the way for us to enjoy this special area and the great organisations who continue to look after it today! 👏

👻 One amusing anecdote about the Red Lion pub in Litton Village, Derbyshire dates back to the 18th century when the pub was allegedly haunted by a mischievous ghost. Legend has it that the ghost would move objects around the pub and play tricks on the patrons.

👻 One night, a group of locals decided to take matters into their own hands and attempt to rid the pub of the ghost. They gathered together and performed a ceremony in which they declared that the ghost was banished and would no longer haunt the Red Lion.

👻 However, the next day, the pub's sign, which featured a red lion, had mysteriously disappeared. The locals searched high and low for the sign but could not find it anywhere. It wasn't until several days later that the sign was discovered hanging in a nearby tree.

👻 It seems that the mischievous ghost was not too happy about being banished from the Red Lion and had decided to take revenge by stealing the pub's sign! To this day, the Red Lion pub still proudly displays its red lion sign, although it's kept a closer eye on it to prevent any further ghostly mischief. Woooooooo!

👻 When you stay at Six Litton Mill don't forget to visit this quaint old English pub to enjoy a drink and great pub grub!

Ah, the penstock - the unsung hero of English Mills! This trusty little tube has been carrying water to the mill wheel for centuries, tirelessly doing its job day in and day out.

Imagine a little penstock sitting there, daydreaming of being a fancy fountain or a luxurious hot tub. But no, its destiny was to be a humble pipe, toiling away in the dank bowels of the mill.

But don't let its unassuming appearance fool you. This little penstock packs a punch! It carries water at high pressure, powering the mill wheel to power the weaving machines with the force of a thousand waterfalls (or thereabouts).

But alas, not everyone appreciates the penstock's charm. In days gone by, mill workers have been known to grumble about its tendency to clog up with debris, causing the mill to grind to a halt. But the penstock takes it all in stride, knowing that without it, the mill would be nothing but a glorified shed.

So the next time you visit Six Litton Mill, look out of the bedroom window to appreciate the penstock. It may not be glamorous, but it's certainly an integral part of the mill's history and legacy!

Did you know? An interesting fact about Litton Mill is that in the early 19th century, the mill was the site of a famous labour dispute between the workers and the mill owners over low wages and poor working conditions. This led to a strike that lasted for several weeks and eventually resulted in a military intervention by the authorities to suppress the protest. The incident became known as the "Litton Mill Riot" and was a significant event in the history of the labour movement in the UK.

The pretty flowers on a cake stand in the lounge are all made of fondant and edible! They were made by one of our family and were placed around our wedding cake.

When the cake was eaten I piled them together and then thought they looked so pretty it would be nice to leave them in the Mill to share with our guests!

Upgrade to the study nook... yes a great dest and screens you can now use!
