Think you know Cambridge?

You probably know the colleges, the punts and the bicycles. But what about the Vikings, gruesome punishments, ridiculous student pranks, bitter Town vs Gown battles and the ghost stories that have been told around the city for generations?

There's a lot more to Cambridge than the version you see on the postcards.

Our Cambridge walking tours tell the stranger, darker and often much funnier stories hiding behind some of the city's most familiar streets and buildings.

Choose Curious Cambridge for entertaining history, or Creepy Cambridge for ghostly tales after dark.

Whether you've lived here for years or you're visiting for the first time, come and find out what Cambridge has been keeping from you.

TRUE OR FALSE: The Cambridge car prank...

Cambridge students have pulled off some ridiculous pranks over the years, but this one might take some beating.

Back in 1958, a group of engineering students allegedly managed something involving a car, a Cambridge college and a location where cars really aren't supposed to be.

What did they do, and did it actually happen?

Watch the video to find out.

Did you get it right? Let us know in the comments.

Some things are just better with a group.

Terrible Tours aren't only for individual bookings. We regularly welcome groups of friends, families, work teams, birthday parties, schools, societies and anyone else looking for a slightly less boring way to spend a few hours together.

Our private group tours give you your own Terrible Tours guide and plenty of fascinating history, strange stories, questionable characters and the sort of facts you'll still be talking about afterwards.

No monotone lectures. No endless lists of dates. Just great storytelling, plenty of laughs and history that's actually fun to listen to.

If you're planning a group day out and fancy doing something a bit different, take a look at our group booking options.

TRUE OR FALSE: Lord Byron’s pet...

Lord Byron wasn’t exactly known for following the rules.

So when Cambridge University told him there were certain pets he couldn’t keep in his rooms, Byron apparently found a rather ridiculous way around it.

But what did he do, and is the story actually true?

Watch the video to find out.

Norwich Cathedral looks rather peaceful in the daylight.

Give it a few centuries of plague, restless spirits, floating skulls and shadowy figures, though, and things get considerably less peaceful.

Tombland and the Cathedral quarter sit at the heart of medieval Norwich, with centuries of strange stories and ghostly legends attached to the streets around them.

We’ve taken a closer look at some of them in our latest blog. Have a read through the link in our bio, preferably before it gets dark.

And if reading about Norwich’s darker history isn’t quite enough, come and hear it for yourself on a Terrible Tour.

Did you know Cambridge has its very own demon dog?

Long before ghost tours and horror films, people across East Anglia told stories of a huge black hound with glowing eyes that appeared without warning. Its name was Black Shuck, and according to local legend, it was even spotted roaming the streets of Cambridge.

The tale doesn't end there.

Many believe this terrifying legend helped inspire one of the most famous fictional dogs of all time in Sherlock Holmes.

Whether you believe the stories or not, it's a fascinating part of Cambridge's folklore that most visitors never hear about.

We've taken a closer look at the legend, its links to Cambridge, and why it still captures people's imagination today.

TRUE OR FALSE: Was football invented in Cambridge?

We had great fun filming these back in July, when the World Cup was still in full swing and football was absolutely everywhere.

But Cambridge has a rather interesting claim of its own...

Was the beautiful game actually invented here?

Watch the video to find out, then tell us whether you got it right in the comments.

And keep an eye out for more ridiculous TRUE OR FALSE history questions coming soon.

We’ve hit 1,000 reviews on Trustindex 🎉🥳👏

That’s a lot of people who willingly spent 90 minutes listening to us talk about murder, plague, ghosts, questionable medical practices and some frankly ridiculous bits of British history.

A huge thank you to everyone who has booked a Terrible Tour, left us a review, recommended us to a friend or come back for another dose.

An equally huge thank you goes to our brilliant tour guides. They’re the people out there bringing these stories to life, making people laugh and making each tour what it is. We genuinely wouldn’t have reached this milestone without the work they put in.

Our founder Hugh has recorded a quick message to say thanks properly.

And since we’re talking milestones, there might be another one just around the corner...

Canterbury, we’ll be seeing you soon.
