The floor of the Wren Library is positioned about ten feet below the level of the windows, a deliberate design choice in 1676, to keep students focused on their studies rather than gazing outside and daydreaming. As a result, the only view of the river is from a window on the staircase that leads to the Library, where you can glimpse St John’s College’s Kitchen Bridge — also designed by Wren some twenty years later. In case you missed it in our last email, here's an important message from Nick about next week :

The 16th September will be somewhat different, as it will be our last. After 10 highly successful years at the NCI, we now feel it has run its time. I will explain more on the night

If you've been a regular but are unable to make it in September, then thank you for your support over the years. But if you'll be there, we can thank you in person and we will be ending with a star studded line up!

We're getting ready to press pause for a few weeks... but there's still time to join us before we do! 🍻
The Pickerel Inn will temporarily close after Tuesday 15 September as we get ready to give this historic Cambridge pub a fresh new look.
So pop in for a pint, find your favourite nook and join us before the work begins 🙌

The Festival starts tonight with the simply excellent Richard Exall Quartet at the Golden lion at 6pm. Come and enjoy 4 days and 31 Concerts - all free to attend. There is just one change from the programme and that is the Sure-Can Playboys will be at the Nelson’s Head tonight instead of Lexie Green who is unable to play. Here is the new programme and we hope that there is something for everyone to enjoy.

We'd like to welcome you to this week's Wednesday Session live at The Grapes, this weeks house band will open the night at 8.30pm featuring John Wright on guitar, James Doherty on keys, Sam Roberts on bass and William Martignetti on drums. Taking the middle slot we have we have local legends Mola Mola Jambalaya, then to finish the night we have a set from Rina Jayne's Rebels, fronted by Marina Bush, with Jess Brett on bass, plus Johnny, James and Willie, so join us at The Grapes Cambridge this Wednesday for some mid-week fun! 🎶🎶🎤🎶🎶
