But this famous Red Sea destination started life as a small fishing village.

For travellers using a full British citizen passport, current GOV.UK guidance says it must:

📅 Have an expiry date at least 6 months after the date you arrive in Egypt
📖 Have at least one blank page

🌊 True or false: the Red Sea is called the Red Sea because the water is red?

False… mostly! 👀

The water is normally the beautiful blue we all know and love. 💙

One popular theory behind the name involves a type of cyanobacteria called Trichodesmium erythraeum. Under certain conditions, blooms can give areas of the water a reddish-brown appearance.

There are other theories too, which means the exact origin of the name is still debated.

Either way, we're quite happy with blue. 😎🌊
