At 3.50pm on Saturday 9th August, Port Isaac RNLI was tasked to assist five people cut off by the tide near Tintagel. The group, none of whom were strong swimmers, found themselves stranded as the tide came in.
Our volunteer crew swiftly launched the inshore lifeboat “Pride of Port Isaac” and brought everyone to safety.
Crew member Harry Hambly was mid-shift at The Mote Seafood Restaurant & Bar when his pager went off. Without hesitation, he left his post, responded to the call, and joined the rescue. Once the shout was over, Harry was straight back behind the bar serving drinks – a great example of the dedication shown by all our volunteers, who balance everyday life with saving lives at sea.
Harry shared this important safety reminder, “Always check tide times before heading out along the coast, especially in areas with limited access. Let someone know where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Getting cut off by the tide can happen quicker than you think.”
A huge thank you to everyone for their quick response – and to all our supporters who make this work possible.
