Look out for EH19 3.7% Pale in pubs throughout Kent. The 'EH' in the name – stands for experimental hops!

Charles Faram, Charles Faram & Co Ltd one of the biggest hop suppliers in the UK has an important hop development programme and as part of that a number of brewers in the South East have been asked to brew with varieties of their new hops. We felt very honoured to have been included.

The only information we had was that the hop had an alpha-acid of 3.4% (this is a measurement of bitterness) and that it had flavours of boiled sweets. Well, we got the boiled sweets from the aroma of the dry hops but once brewed we got subtle flavours of stone fruits and berries and a gentle fruity aroma. The result is a delicious low abv beer. Perfect for summer supping!

Last week we brewed with EH19 an experimental hop from Charles Faram & Co Ltd . We love our hops and to be one of a handful of brewers getting to brew with hops before they’ve been named excites us greatly. All we knew when we brewed is they’ve got an alpha-acid of 3.4% and flavours of boiled sweets… The brew is smelling lovely so watch this space for more detailed tasting notes…

Is it the rye that gives this rich dark porter it's spiciness or is it the Kazbek hops - may be it's both?! Or it could just be the alchemy of the brew. For full tasting notes https://canterburyales.co.uk/our-specials/

Sometimes your tasting notes just nail it. Thanks Gabriel S for your review of our Merchant's Ale - Mild Kentish Stout. 'Fantastic caramelly nose. The beer starts mild with hints of peated smoke. Very interesting. Mild roast in the middle, very soft with a smooth chocolate dry back. Malty on the tongue, not much bitterness, very dry roasted finish. Burned grain, soft. Nice.'

If you've got your own tasting notes too - let us know!
