How beautiful is this photo of Raglan Castle? It's a great angle with the distinctive peak of Pen-y-fâl / the Sugar Loaf silhouetted behind the sunset and the Skirrid / Ysgyryd Fawr just to the right of it.

Whilst there are mainly rural fields surrounding the castle nowadays, back in the 15th and 16th centuries there would have been extensive deer parkland, orchards, fish ponds and water gardens, offering visitors a contrast between the managed park and the rugged Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacon mountains in the distance. You can just about make out where part of the water gardens would have been in the wooded dip between the castle and the fields in this photo.

Thanks to for this photo. Raglan Castle is open all year round.

Here's a map with a difference. Titled "Empty Wales", this map depicts hundreds of yellow squares - each one representing a 1 kilometre square.

The interesting part?

Each of these squares contain not a single building inside. As incredibly eerie as it is astounding!
