12 September - World Dolphin Day

This World Dolphin Day, we’re celebrating the dolphins that call Scotland’s seas home — and the healthy coastal habitats they depend on.

Every sighting, from local waters to offshore encounters, is a reminder of the incredible wildlife on our doorstep and why we must protect our seas from pollution, disturbance and climate change.

On 12 September, let’s celebrate, protect and cherish Scotland’s dolphins.

The most often seen cetaceans off our coast are the common dolphin, harbour porpoise, bottlenose dolphin and the occasional orca (last spotted in May 2026 off the Mull of Galloway).
