This is for the founder who built their business on something real 💛 a belief, an experience, a purpose they couldn't ignore, and who now feels that thing getting quietly buried under growth, systems, and the sheer weight of running things.

You know the feeling. The values are still there, deeply within you, they always were. But as the business grows, you're not in control of every decision the way you once were, and those values are struggling to stay embedded, seeming to get diluted along the way.

There's a kind of friction ⚡️ a battle almost, between where you are and where you actually want to be.

The Business Flow Map goes deeper than a business improvement offer. It's a free, one-to-one conversation, online, about 60 minutes ⏳

We start from the inside out, your inner call, why you built this, what you value, and then we look at your systems and processes.
That's Soul, Systems and Flow. Soul is your why, the values and purpose already inside you. Systems is how your business actually runs day to day. Flow is what happens when the two are working together, rather than pulling against each other.

Using 25 years of business improvement experience in operations, manufacturing and supply chain, we map where your Soul, Systems and Flow stand right now 🧭 against where you want them to be, and get to the root cause of why that friction is there.

You'll leave with a personalised report, not a quiz, not a generic template, something you can put to work in your own business straight away.

Completely free, no obligation, whether you take it and run with it yourself or want to work together further is entirely up to you, there will be no sales pitch during the session, just value.

I was sat in the car, and I felt physically sick. I couldn't move. I just sat there, and it took everything I had to make myself get out and go in.

The first time, I put it down to a bad day. Then it kept happening.

It took me a long time to understand what that feeling actually was. It wasn't burnout. It was misalignment, spending my energy on something that didn't connect to what I valued.

There's a day I still remember clearly.

And then I felt the other side of it.

The first time I did work that was truly aligned, that came from somewhere true, I felt it in my whole body, lighter, faster, like something that had been jammed for years had finally found its release. That's flow. It's not a nice-to-have. It's what happens when your values, your purpose and what you actually spend your energy on are in alignment.

I've written a longer piece this week on the mechanism behind both sides of that, why misalignment shows up as friction long before you can explain it, and what changes, properly changes, when everything lines up.

It includes what happened to The Body Shop when its values stopped driving its decisions, and why Deborah Meaden says some of her best-performing investments have been her most values-led ones.

What's the moment you knew something wasn't aligned, before you could explain why?

There's a stage almost every growing food or cosmetics brand hits, and pretty much nobody warns you about it.

You've outgrown your own kitchen, but you're not quite big enough for a co-packer to take you on yet. Most need hundreds, sometimes thousands of units before they'll even pick up the phone.

So you're stuck in the middle. Too big to keep doing it all yourself, too small for anyone else to want you.

I wrote a new blog post about exactly this stage, the practical side of scaling well without losing what matters. How to work out your real capacity, where the time in your process is actually going, and how to keep your values intact even once someone else is making your product for you.

If you're building something values-led and you're stuck in that awkward middle right now, this one's for you✨

It started with a lightning bolt ⚡, a genuine epiphany, the kind where everything just clicks into place all at once.

That's exactly what happened with Soul, Systems, Flow, it turned up while I was working on some content, just a headline, nothing more, and it hit me so hard I stopped everything for two weeks and rebuilt my whole programme from the ground up.

✨ Soul is the compass, the deep, innate calling already there in every founder and every business.

⚙️ Systems carry the work, the structures and processes that make it easy.

🌊 Flow is what happens when the two align, real movement, at the right pace.

Businesses rooted in values don't just feel better, they perform better. You stop pushing, and you start flowing.

Three streams. One business. One life. 🌿

Today is a turning point of the year. The summer solstice.🌞

This is something I do at every solstice and equinox, a deliberate data pause. A moment to step back, connect to source, and get really clear on that inner call again.

I have a process, I map it out: the long-term vision, then shorter and shorter, back to nine months, six months, three months. Using these turning points as reflection and visualisation points.

The lovely, dreamy, magical day turns into something with shape.🧚‍♂️

And tomorrow, Monday, I turn it into an action plan. Because a process only matters if it leads somewhere.

I take my clients through this same process. 💫

Today's the longest day of the year. ☀️
The sun's at its highest point. From here, the days start turning the other way.

Solstice has always felt like a natural pause to me. Not a finish line. Just a moment to stop and ask the question most of us are too busy to ask on an ordinary Tuesday.

Are you actually flowing towards the thing you set out to do? 🌊

Not the to-do list. Not the inbox. The real thing. Your vision. Your values. The purpose that started all of this, before the systems, before the spreadsheets, before today's fire to put out.

It's easy to lose sight of it. Not because you don't care anymore, but because the day to day is loud and the why is quiet.

So today, I'm taking my own advice. Slowing down. Going back to source. ✨

Friday blog is live, 🌿

There's a new moon on Monday, which for me is always a natural moment to pause, to get quiet, to reconnect with what I'm building and why. To sit with the vision and let it feel real, not just in my head but in my body. ✨

This week's From the River post is about visualisation

Not the vision board clichés or the manifesting sports cars version of it, but the real, lived, daily practice of returning to your vision, especially on the days when the doubt gets loud and the noise drowns everything else out.

I've been doing this for years. It looks different every day, a morning stillness before the phone, a walk by the river, the bath with candles, a moment of quiet before sleep, but it's always steeped in ritual, and that's what makes it work. 🕯️

The ritual doesn't have to be elaborate. Five minutes of stillness before you open your phone, five minutes of quiet reflection before sleep. That's enough. What matters is the consistency, the returning, the making it part of the rhythm of your day rather than something you do once a week and forget about.

Because the real power of a daily practice isn't just in the morning visualisation itself. It's in what it gives you throughout the day, the ability to catch yourself when the negative thought patterns creep in, when the self-doubt starts to spiral, when fear gets louder than vision. The practice means your vision is already close, already warm, already lived in. You can step back into it in seconds. That's what ritual builds.

Not just a morning habit, but a lifeline you can reach for any time you need it. 💛

And here's the thing that makes this more than moon magic.

The neuroscience is just as compelling as the soul work. Your brain genuinely cannot tell the difference between a vividly imagined experience and a real one. 🧠

Read it over lunch if you fancy something a little nourishing for the soul, to close the week.

Happy Friday. 🌊

I've written a plain English guide to take the mystery out of it.

The blog covers:

What SEDEX actually is and whether you need it.
What a SMETA audit involves.
What most small ethical businesses are missing in preparation.
And how to get ready without losing your values or your mind.

The technical stuff is not as scary as it looks. Especially if your values are already solid.

A buyer just asked if you're SEDEX registered and you're not sure what that means. Here's exactly what SEDEX is, what a SMETA audit involves, and how to prepare without the corporate overwhelm

Friday reading for any of you running an ethical product business 🌿

https://www.pureimprovement.com/blog/ethical-founder-values-not-the-problem-systems-are

I wrote this today for the founder who's doing everything right and still feels like something's off.

These are the 10 signs your values-led business needs better systems:

1. You are the quality system — everything runs through you
2. Your ethics are in your marketing, not your operations
3. New starters learn your workarounds, not your values
4. You feel guilty about profit
5. You have a vision but not a plan
6. Scaling feels dangerous, not exciting
7. Your certifications and your reality don’t quite match
8. Your team is capable but can’t act without you
9. The thing that lit you up is buried under the thing that drains you
10. You know something needs to change — but don’t know what to do first

If you nodded at any of those — the full post is for you. I’ve written what to do about each one.

Your values are not the problem. Your systems are.
