"Our recent visit to Park in the Past as part of our primary school's history unit on the Romans was an unforgettable experience! From start to finish, the trip was engaging, educational, and filled with fun hands-on learning opportunities that brought the topic of Roman history to life for our students.
A special mention must go to Cellan, who led our group with such enthusiasm and expertise. He was incredibly knowledgeable and had a natural talent for storytelling that kept the children completely captivated throughout the day. His entertaining approach made the history feel real and exciting, sparking curiosity and genuine interest among all the pupils.
The hands-on activities were a real highlight. Whether it was handling replica Roman artefacts, trying out Roman marching drills, or exploring reconstructed historical features, every part of the day was designed to immerse the children in the world of the Romans. The interactive nature of the sessions made learning so much more impactful and memorable.
The setting itself was beautiful and well-organised, with plenty of space for exploration and discovery. It was clear that a lot of care and passion had gone into creating an authentic and enjoyable educational environment.
We would highly recommend Park in the Past to any school looking for a high-quality, engaging educational visit. A huge thank you to Cellan and the team for making history come alive in such a fun and meaningful way."

"Rome wasn't built in a day… but Mount Snowdon? Conquered in 9½ hours— by Romans in full kit!"

This weekend, three determined members of Roman Tours took on the incredible challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon wearing full Roman auxiliary gear— including studded, flat-soled caligae (definitely not your typical mountain attire!). Together, the team brought history to life with every step to the summit and back.

Along the way, we handed out over 100 leaflets promoting our partner Park in The Past and our upcoming 'Auxilia' event at the end of May. We had fantastic conversations and shared many laughs with very surprised hikers, many of whom felt like they had traveled back in time.

Don't miss 'Auxilia', 31st May– 1st June at Park in the Past, Hope, Wrexham, LL12 9HB.

This major event will feature Roman cavalry, traders, delicious food and drink, live demonstrations, and re-enactors from across the UK and beyond. It's a celebration of history, learning, and hands-on discovery for all ages.

It was a tough climb— but well worth it to spread the word about 'Auxilia' and share our passion for Roman history in such a memorable way!

Celebrating 29 Years of Roman Tours!

Today marks 29 incredible years since Roman Tours began—and what an amazing journey it has been!

From humble beginnings to becoming Chester's "Number One Tour", we've had the privilege of working with thousands of people from around the world, sharing our passion for Roman history and proudly supporting our local community and schools.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has helped shape our story—our brilliant team, our enthusiastic guests, and all those who continue to support and promote what we do. As we look to the future, we'd love your continued support in sharing our posts, raising awareness, and helping us inspire even more people to discover the power and relevance of history.

Some of our proudest achievements over the years include:

• Creating the first Roman kids army display, earning recognition as the "youth workers of Roman reenactment."

• Educating over 60,000 children in schools across the UK, in Chester, the Grosvenor Museum and at Park in the Past.

• Promoting Chester's heritage across the world through collaborations with the Grosvenor Museum, Heritage Festival, Heritage Action Zone, and Marketing Cheshire.

• We created and run Chester's beloved Saturnalia event annually, which has attracted the interest of Ghetti images. Their images of this festival have since been showcased across the world.

• Building the Roman Fort at Chester Racecourse to establish an international Roman festival, to now working with Park in the Past to reconstruct a working Auxiliary fortress. This has then created the foundations for a new Roman Festival which takes place every year called "Auxilia" at Park in the Past.

• Hosting the UK's largest Roman event, "This is Dewa," with 170 reenactors attending from across Europe.

• Running with the Olympic Torch as it passed through Chester at Eastgate in 2012.

• Participating in a Founders Day march through Rome, Italy.

• Welcoming thousands of visitors annually on our Roman Tours and Medieval Tours of Chester.

• Holding the No.1 spot on TripAdvisor for our Roman Tours, and No.7 for our Medieval Tours.

• Doing 10 mile sponsored walks for charity in full Roman marching kit.

• We have brought Chester's Roman Amphitheatre to life with the spectacle of gladiatorial combat displays.

And much much more...

We're proud of what we've accomplished—and even more excited for what's still to come.
Thank you for being a part of it all. Keep sharing, keep supporting, and let's keep history alive—together.
