Trearddur Bay Weekend

Hi Everyone

Our Trip to Trearddur started off with a forecast of calm weather for Thursday, so as the Centurion was already there after last weeks Coxwain assessments it was decided to put a plan into action that we have had for a few years to circumnavigate the Island of Anglesey in one of our Rhibs. We started off from Holyhead sailing club at just before 12.00, two hours after LW Holyhead with 6 of us in Centurion, our plan was to go anti clockwise to North Stack, South Stack, Rhoscolyn Head then on to Llanddwyn Island but before that we did encounter a large pod of common dolphins at least 25 of them who loved swimming along with us in the wake of the engine, that made the trip worthwhile on its own, after Llanddwyn it was the entrance to the Menai Strait which is to be fair not easy to navigate for even experienced Boat handlers, even following the channel buoys and mid tide we still had only half a metre of water under the Boat in some places, past the Both bridges ten on to Beaumaris for a half hour break, plan was 37nm and we got there in 36.5nm. We set off again for Penmon point then around past Puffin Island across the bay to Point Lynas when another Porpoise was spotted, past East Mouse, Middle Mouse & West Mouse around Carmel Head with the Skerries to the right, then along Holyhead Bay back to the Harbour, we did it in 4.25 hours, completed 68.4nm and used 81 litres of fuel, great day out.
Friday had 3 Boats out of Trearddur, Centurion, XS and Marlin with 14 divers diving the Kangaroo, Missouri and the Norman Court followed back at Anglesey Outdoors with a not so quick Mexican meal from a food wagon, Sharon organised fish and chips for a lot to save waiting then back to base for a well earned drink.
Saturdays weather was forecast SW so it was decided to go out of Holyhead although the weather stayed calm, Centurion, XS, Marlin and Calgo took 23 Divers out to the Meath, Asmund, Cliperau Rocks and the Flint Wreck, Damien and the Golden Lion Club were there as well, then it was back for the usual Saturday night BBQ.
We had help putting the event shelter up and we were joined by Wrexham Seals and their big gazebo, Deb, Jill & Sharon were cooking and making salads while Tom and his big BBQ were being set up with mine & Martins in support, we had 70 burgers, 9 kg of Kebab's, 6.5 kg of sausages and 6 kg of chicken wings to cook for at least 66 guests, all this was followed by lots of lovely cakes made by Kate, at rather short notice I may say so big thanks to her, weather was a bit colder on Saturday night and a big thanks to all that helped clear up and did the washing up ready for Sunday.
The weather forecast wasn’t too good for Sunday so Centurion left for a Dive from Bull Bay on the Dakota with 6 divers all having a good dive with some have 60 mins on it, XS and Marlin tried to get out of Holyhead to retrieve Chris’s shotline off the Meath but as you got around the Harbour Wall it really picked up and it was quickly decided to abort and head back in to the Harbour, however now going against wind and waves nearly recorded a dive for some computers ;0)
How different from Thursdays weather.
These events are a group effort so thanks to all the towers and all who helped with the Boats and all that helped at Anglesey Outdoors, same again next year.
Cheers
Dave

A first for Chester Sub Aqua Club, starting from Holyhead Sailing Club we completed a trip in our Rhib Centurion all around the Island, getting back to Holyhead just over 4 hours later after covering 68.4 nm and using 81 lts of fuel, we stopped off at Beaumaris for a break after encountering a large pod of common dolphins just before Newborough beach. It was a very calm day which made it easier but was a great experience for all onboard 👍😀 .

Menai Boat Run

Hi Everyone
The Club ran the Menai Boat run fundraiser for Beaumaris RNLI yesterday and handed a cheque for £1400.00 over to Pippa and the crew at the station.
24 Boats were meant to go including 3 from Chester Centurion, XS1 and Chester 588 Neil o May’s boat.
However we had to leave Centurion behind as it developed an engine problem, however we will get it sorted asap. It was a great day starting with breakfast baps at the Port Dinorwig sailing Club followed by fish & chips in Beaumaris, weather was a bit dull and overcast but little wind.
We were joined by the Crew from Beaumaris in their Atlantic 85 on the way back to Felinheli to help with their training.
These events don’t go ahead without lots of help so big thanks to Steve, Martin and Neil for towing the Cox’s Geoff & Colin on XS1 and those on Neil’s boat and all that payed their donation to join us and helped getting the boats out and back again.
The passengers on the Centurion had a lift from Blue Peter 1 to Beaumaris and back, this is the original boat paid for by the viewers of Blue Peter and it was based at Little Hampton for 18 years.
Cheers
Dave
