Another great members’ trip this week to World of Wedgwood. We had a lovely start to the day with delicious scones and tea in their exquisite tearoom, followed by a factory tour and around the V&A Wedgwood collection museum too. Truly fascinating and our guide was amazing! Huge thanks to Ava Sanders, Jessica Speakman and Holly Evans for their kind hospitality.

Definitely worth a visit if you have never been before!

📰 Today VisitEngland published new research that highlights tourism’s importance to social cohesion and wellbeing. ‘The Social Value of Tourism’ report demonstrates the positive cultural and social impacts that tourism has on local communities across the UK.

VisitEngland CEO Patricia Yates said "when tourism thrives, local communities thrive too".

This new research means we can now evidence how tourism improves wellbeing and social cohesion for both visitors and residents alike, as well as boosting employment opportunities, social mobility and improving local infrastructure.

As the report demonstrates, tourism's true value extends much broader than its economic benefits, creating connected communities where people want to live, work and visit and enriching community life.

In his other role as The High Sheriff of Derbyshire our Visit Peak District & Derbyshire Chair, Sir Richard FitzHerbert was busy this week as part of the commemorations. Sir Richard and his Consort, sister Selina, visited Staveley Town Council Commemoration, delivered a talk to Matlock Ladies Lunch Club, followed by an impressive service at Derby Cathedral. The day ended with Sir Richard lighting the Ashbourne Town Council Beacon at 9.30pm with the last post being played by a local bugler.

During his travels yesterday Sir Richard also took the opportunity to give his support to two of our attractions, The Heights of Abraham and The Great British Car Journey, where he attempted to drive the spectacular Arrol-Johnson XS2. 🤝 We're delighted to welcome onboard our newest patron, Hassop Station Cafe & Monsal Trail Cycle.

As a patron, Hassop Station will support our core aims to increase visitor spend, drive overnight stays and extend the tourism season, whilst helping to develop the visitor economy in an inclusive, accessible and sustainable way.

Situated in a former railway station on the scenic Monsal Trail, at the heart of the Peak District, Hassop Station is a much-loved destination for walkers, cyclists and horse riders looking to explore the 8.5-mile traffic-free Monsal Trail.

The business was founded by Duncan Stokes and Rebecca Stokes in 2010 and, following a sensitive renovation project that complemented the building’s rich heritage, has grown into a vibrant visitor hub with a cycle hire centre, café, accommodation, gift shop and holiday accommodation.

Hassop Station is particularly passionate about supporting the local community and aims to work with Visit Peak District & Derbyshire to champion the sustainable development and growth of the area’s £2.9bn .

Duncan Stokes, owner of Hassop Station Café and Monsal Trail Cycle Hire, says: “We are thrilled that Hassop Station is now a proud patron of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire. We have been working in partnership with Jo Dilley and the team for fifteen years since we started welcoming our first guests and customers, and are very thankful for their support over the years. We are committed to promoting and celebrating the stunning beauty of the Peak District and we try to help generate sustainable tourism to the area that benefits both visitors and the local community.”
