The South Downs Way.

For those that don't know, it is a 100-mile trail across the ancient chalk escarpment of the geological South Downs.

You can walk it, run it, cycle it and ride it, with more sections being made accessible for trampers and those with additional mobility needs.

It’s looking to be a bumper year for The Brambles ! Our guests during March/April have been enjoying endless long sunny days that are often only expected later in the season ! I’m sure that any true old school brownie lover would agree that not all brownies are created equal - although all have their place☺️ For me when I bite into a brownie, I want just a slight resistance of crust and then rich dark fudgy chocolatiness that sticks embarrassingly to my teeth. No sweeties, no Biscoff or biscuity bits - simply chocolate…. For our Brambles guests tonight who’ve spent their last beautiful sunny afternoon 5mins drive up the road at racecourse. P214/215

I wonder how many pics of Raspberry Bakewell Slice I’ve posted over the years ☺️- it’s still requested time and again !! I’m cooking supper for our guests in The Brambles this week. The Brambles conservatory is perfect for evening dining at the moment as it gets all the late sun and feels as though you’re eating in the garden - but without that chilly evening air 🙂

Last Saturday, Western Sussex CAMRA members turned out in force to celebrate its annual Pub of the Year (POTY) award. This year the award returned to the Wilkes Head, Eastergate, and a certificate and the trophy was presented to a delighted Trevor Brown and his staff. The Wilkes won the award by getting the most votes from local members, all of whom were impressed by their continuing commitment to well-kept cask ales.

There couldn’t have been a more perfect morning - and a new route for both of us! 15 mins drive from The Brambles. We parked halfway along Hat Hill (the Goodwood Sculpture park rd)turned right through the gates and did a big circular loop across fields with a fabulous view of Halnaker Windmill and through woodland, partially on the Monarchs Way, with a midway stop for a pint at the really lovely Star and Garter East Dean where the roasts looked fantastic 😋!! Back up to the Pilley Green lodge cottages and straight down to the car. We saw lots of deer but no other walkers (altho we came across Tim and Will Rumsey with Louie Draper out in their beautiful cars enjoying the sunshine) a very peaceful route ❤️

The Brambles

My family have lived in this house, previously an Agricultural Nursery, since 1976. Dave & I, Lotte & Will moved back here in 2005. With a garden of 3 acres, the property has retained that feeling of rural isolation but is actually within walking distance of local Shops, Pub & an Indian Restaurant. The house is perfectly divided into two. The holiday accommodation has 2 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms - one a twin bed & the master bedroom can be configured as Super King size or twin. Downstairs there is a spacious lounge with wood-burner , study & fully equipped self catering kitchen. There is also an additional wet-room. The Conservatory leads onto a private secluded garden with its own gateway entrance. The garden has a very natural feel, with an abundance of wildlife all year. We all live on site & run a Pop up Restaurant from their kitchen a few times a month. Dave & I are very happy to provide home cooked meals for guests who would prefer to relax, stay in & let someone else do the work ! [to be pre-arranged with us] We are ideally located for events at #Goodwood, #Fontwell Racecourse, #Arundel & #Chichester Festivals. RSPB Pulborough, WWT Arundel, Pagham Nature Reserve, Kingley Vale & Southdowns National Park all with a 20 minute drive. We are 45 minutes drive from Portsmouth & Brighton & 10 minutes drive from The Coast. All bookings for The Brambles must be made via https://www.amberleyhousecottages.co.uk/Sussex/Holiday-cottage/The-Brambles/547517 Our Electricity Supply is ‘100% renewable sourced’. We also have some Solar Generation on the roof and all the cleaning products we use are as ‘Green’ as we can source. Looking forward to meeting you.... Pip & Dave
