Well Saturday was an excellent way to kick off the fly-in season, the weather was perfect and 12 Austers and lots of military vehicles, together with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere made for a perfect day! Many thanks to all the people who attended and organized the event 🥂

Some photos of Austers at the Antique Aeroplane Association Rally at Corowa in NSW over the weekend of 18. and 19. of April. 12 Austers flew in, enjoying superb weather on both days. I presented IAC trophies, to Matt Grigg and James Stevenson, for their special efforts in restoring, flying and enthusiasm for Austers. Matt is pictured with his J1N VH-KBA while James escaped the camera but his Auster MkIII VH-BCG is pictured.

The Middlezoy fly-in. This promises to be a great event. Thanks to Dan Hedger for the superb poster and to all of the Auster team at Middlezoy for hosting the club. For some it will be a chance to reminisce about our fly-out to Falaise in Normandy for the D-Day 80th anniversary.

It is with huge sadness that we have learnt today that Jerome Mostyn passed away peacefully on Monday evening.

Jerome was a huge enthusiast of the Auster marque and within the club. He completed military service training with a Mk5 post war 1947-1957 undertaking his Royal Artillery Air Observation skills on which he so eloquently briefed us all in March 2025 at the AGM. And then followed this with a long flying career in a Mk5A – TW511. All comprehensively documented in his book – The Big Trip and Other Flights. Well worth a read, and which will bring a smile to any Auster enthusiast.

He served tirelessly as our President for 3 years and was heavily involved in our two trips to Falaise to commemorate the 75th and then the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. Remarkable energy and good humour at all times.

We have lost a friend, an accomplished Auster pilot and an enthusiast of all things Auster. He will be sorely missed. His aircraft lives on and will be a poignant reminder of a gentleman and a great man. He had an illustrious and eventful life, was great company and always a cheerful friend.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Regards
Hamish

Great to get two classics from the 40s ( no not the owners 🫣) at a private strip near Yeovil.
