Our Exmoor holiday finished with a walk past the tallest trees in England and te oddly naked Bats Castle - not really a castle. more a mound - everyone finished with lunch in Dunster.

Secret Hills Walking Holidays

I first attended ‘Secret Hills’, in two thousand and five.
I came with my friend Rodger, who kindly said he’d drive.
Church Stretton has a big hotel, the Long Mynd it is called.
And after that first weekend, I really was enthralled.

We travelled to the Stiperstones and wandered many paths.
With leaders we could chat to, and walkers gave us laughs.
I really loved the format and knew it was for me.
With twenty years of holidays, I must like it you see!

I’ve reached the top of Sugar Loaf and Table Mountain, too.
So many special holidays I’d recommend to you.
I travelled to Madeira, Levadas everywhere.
A long walk on the first day but we really didn’t care.

I visited the Lake District, my wettest weekend break.
I’ve got a lot of gear and wellies that I take.
Climbed many steps in Ironbridge, with Barbara, strode ahead.
With long full days of walking, you’re glad to see your bed.

I had a bad experience and Trevor gave first aid.
He saved my life from choking and what a friend I made!

Another day, a lady fell while standing on a wall.
My shoulders she did land on, but Alan broke her fall.
I had a pork pie in my hand and let out such a cry.
I’d rather break a shoulder, than give up my pork pie.

My favourite place is Hartington; I love the Derby dales.
I’ve come to Shropshire twenty times. O’h I could tell some tales.
I’ve walked with Paul and Lesley, Ing, Ian and Darren too.
Chris and Keith and Helene, just to name a few.

I’ve met such lovely people who have a common aim.
To enjoy all the countryside with others just the same.
This holiday’s my fortieth. I’ve got them on a list.
The chance to walk and good food too, I really can’t resist.

None of this could happen, without our Alan’s dream.
So please accept my thanks, to you and all your team.

Ten Peak Challenge in the Shropshire Hills - a little windy yesterday over the Stretton Hills - but quite warm/ Clee Hills today.
Super walking group and as usual Shropshire is providing excellent food.

Our Pyrenees Magic holiday is based in the magnificent Spanish Pyrenees in Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. We stay in the quaint village of Torla with incredible mountain views. This holiday gives you 5 incredible hikes with huge views, cascading waterfalls and rivers and an abundance of wild flowers and cute marmots.

Another lovely group joined us for five days of walking in the wonderful Derbyshire Dales around Dovedale. They kept up a great pace and took Bunster Hill in their stride to enjoy an incredible view out over the countryside of three counties. A mixture of packed lunches and pub lunches with great weather for walking.

This is our always popular Mallorca holiday based from the idyllic Port Soller. Our 3* family hotel is located right on the sea front which gives us al fresco dining, post hike dips in the sea and magnificent sunsets.

Secret Hills Walking holidays: crafted by walkers for walkers. You matter to us – we believe you deserve the best. Short Breaks For Singles: We specialise in organising a variety of different short holiday breaks in the UK and Europe where you can travel solo and meet new friends in a safe, lively, relaxed and stress free way.

The story so far

In 2002 – realising a dream- with no real sense of where do we go with this – an advert in Country Walking magazine – ha, 38 people responded. The hook initially was the beautiful Shropshire Hills – indeed a secret. Just 4 weekend programmes in 2003 – but learning all the way. Introduced social walking weekend for singles – it still runs today- hit the right button and many people enjoyed the delights of the Shropshire Hills. If we can do it in Shropshire – why not else where – so Derbyshire Dales added – then other areas – following the principal of no single supplement, social walking, good food and good company. In 2005 – off we go to Madeira start of our European journey which now has us walking in 13 countries. BUT – the people who were the backbone of the business from the start – they deserve the credit, they followed the same format as we rolled out into all of the UK. Where now – wow, the opportunities are vast, the worlds is a beautiful place. But we must keep that friendly, personal touch, the ethics of excellent walking opportunities, the ability to look after you and give you a tremendous walking and social experience. Now – with super people working for the business, we grow from strength to strength – join us for that special break.
