Well… turns out The Amsterdam Dungeon wasn’t my brightest idea 😬

I didn’t even like ghost trains as a kid, so not sure what I was thinking signing up for something way scarier - complete with dark tunnels, creepy noises, and things that touch you 😱

Alfie and I made a swift exit and have retreated to the hotel for a well-earned calm down. Definitely ticking “haunted horror experiences” off the to-do list for good! 👻🫣

Who reads instructions anyway?

Waiting to get into Meridian Showground, Maccies is shut because of a power cut so we’re staring at the sea.

Jacob is 99% raging at me for a) making him get up mega early and b) not being able to get him a Maccies breakfast.

As his peers leave their formal education after sitting their GCSEs, Alfie’s education journey looks very different.

Failed by Primary school, unable to complete secondary school, he’s found his own way to shine.

Since he became home educated he’s:

🎨 Taken part in urban art workshops

👩‍🎨 Set up a youth market business

🧮 Passed his maths GCSE equivalent a year early

🧑‍💻 Is currently waiting for his IT results before he starts his English

🎹 Taught himself various instruments and about to take part in some workshops.

Is it the journey we envisioned for him? It is not. Is it the journey he needed? It absolutely is and I’m grateful I am in a position to advocate for my children after they’d been failed for so long.

The annual trip to Lincoln to light candles in the cathedral for our babies was a little different this year.

After 15 years we all got to go together again. There were additional young people, there were even more things to celebrate.

I hope it isn’t another 15 years before we can be together again.

The boys did really well with spending a day with new people and people they haven’t seen in ages.

Jacob wasn’t even in the planning stage when my friend and her children left for the USA, with Alfie only being a tiny wee baby.

Our hearts are full and now I think the boys want to go over to visit them and see where they live.
