Lucy here - join me in South Africa this September 🇿🇦

I’m excited to be joining the Ant’s Bushwillow Safari from 23–30 September, and there are still space for fellow riders to join.

Over the week, we'll ride across the open plains, spotting giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, antelope and even rhino from horseback. Bushwillow is part of the Ant's Lodges collection, offering excellent horses, knowledgeable guides, comfortable chalet accommodation and plenty of opportunities for long canters across the beautiful African wilderness.

The safari is designed for confident riders who enjoy cantering in a group, with around 4-5 hours riding each day, plus game drives, bush walks, sun-downers and relaxed evenings under the open night-sky.

☀Devetaki Plateau Ride (180 km): A fast-paced trail featuring castles, monasteries, waterfalls and long canters across open countryside.

☀Kingdom of Thracians (145 km): Ride through valleys and mountains south of the Balkans, with comfortable guesthouses and spa opportunities along the way.

☀Wild Land of Bulgaria (130 km): Discover lakes, forests and rolling countryside while experiencing Bulgaria’s rich culture, food and wine.

‼️ You are invited - to ride with us in 2026 ‼️

Here at In The Saddle we personally visit all of the rides we feature, it's something we are passionate about, and means we can talk to you with genuine first-hand knowledge.

Later this year, Abbie is heading to Zambia to test out a new safari set in the Simalaha Conservancy in the west of the country. There are just two places left and she'd love for you to join her!

The adventure starts at the glorious Chundukwa River Lodge, on the banks of the Zambezi. Time is set aside for you to spend a full day visiting the incredible Victoria Falls. You'll then journey by boat to Simalaha to meet the horses and set off on your safari adventure.

Here, the open plains offer marvellous going with no holes - so you can just imagine the feeling of space and the freedom! The game viewing is exceptional, from giraffe, buffalo and zebra to sable, lechwe and hippo.

If you are an experienced rider in search of a safari, then do consider the Kilimanjaro Horse Safari in Tanzania.

This mobile safari features exhilarating riding, well-schooled horses and exciting wildlife encounters. You'll ride off the beaten path in search of big cats, elephants, buffalo, red duiker, zebra and giraffe.

You ride through the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, and northwards over farmland and the Maasai steppe. Along the way there are many possibilities for cultural interactions with the local people.

If you’re still dreaming of a summer adventure, we do still have availability on selected departures of our Highland Trails rides in Iceland this year.

These rides are all about the experience: vast volcanic landscapes, remote mountain tracks, river crossings and long days in the saddle beneath Iceland’s endless summer skies ✨

Accommodation on many of the trails is simple and rustic, reflecting the remote nature of the routes — but for many riders, that’s all part of the adventure and charm of travelling through Iceland’s wild interior.

All dates are on our website for the three different itineraries, the Dolphin Trail, Alentejo Coastal Trail and the Kingdom of the Lusitano. These are all trail rides exploring slightly different areas but on the same quality horses and all guided by Miguel.

🐴🌞 We now have the 2027 dates and prices available for our rides in Spain’s beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains 🌞🐴

These holidays offer relaxed riding through scenic mountain landscapes, traditional villages and quiet countryside, with plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings and local hospitality along the way.

Although the pace is generally steady rather than fast, riders do need to be fit and comfortable spending long hours in the saddle, as the terrain can be mountainous in places.

Surrounded by the imposing peaks of the Witteberg mountains, Moolmanshoek offers incredible riding on top-quality horses.

Your day might begin with morning coffee looking out over the horse paddocks, where there are often mares with foals at foot. After breakfast set off on horseback, with exciting canters along grassy tracks with herds of wildebeest and zebra on either side. Return to the lodge for lunch on the veranda, and in the afternoon ride up into the mountains for spectacular views. Later, meet in the lounge for drinks, followed by a delicious three course meal.

Moolmanshoek truly is a horse lovers’ paradise. You can learn about the award-winning South African Boerperd and Arabian studs, how the young horses spend their early years, and the impressive endurance horse training programme.
