A great Art Trail to experience! 🧡🎨
One of the finest art trails in the Northwest of England, Around The Island offers a unique opportunity to peek inside the workshops and studios of some of Cumbria's best artists.
DATES: September 19th + 20th and 26th + 27th
Studios will be open 11am-5pm
Offering a rich mix of practices from hand-thrown pots to contemporary paintings, sculpture to wildlife photography, this is a beautiful event celebrating its 7th year. Set within a 10km radius around Bowness-on-Solway. Around the Island offers visitors a special opportunity to see and talk to the artists in the very place where they make their work. The Open Studios have become a highlight of the year.
11 venues to visit across one of Cumbria's most beautiful and largely unknown landscapes. An area of outstanding natural beauty, “the Island” is home to an eclectic mix of traditional agricultural practices and creative people.
Studios will be open 11am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday over two weekends. All artists will be on hand to chat about their work, and maps will be available to guide you Around the Island - and the now famous Sunshine flags will fly to help visitors spot each studio. Public buses run on both Saturday + Sunday - making the peninsular incredibly accessible to visitors and locals alike.
2026 is an exciting year, and they are delighted to be hosting events with Bowness-on-Solway Primary School (an exhibition of the students work), local musicians, poets, and the The Kings Arms Pub & B'n'B - Bowness On Solway where they will be running some of their evening fringe events over the weekends.
