Emily's Wild Adventures

Emily's Wild Adventures Outdoor Guide based in rural Perthshire. Guided hill walks, wild camping and cycling adventures in Scotland. Exploring the path less travelled.

I love being in the outdoors, especially in my home of Scotland. I have travelled all over the world cycling, trekking and climbing, but nothing is as stunning as the Scottish wilderness. I find any excuse to get outside, walking, cycling, running or wild camping and I want to share my passion with you. I am a qualified Mountain Leader, Mountain Bike Leader and Cycling Coach, with 20 years experie

nce of getting into the wilderness and having adventures. Whether you want to walk up a mountain or something a bit more low level, go on a bike ride or experience your first wild camp, I am here and excited to help.

Hello,

For anyone who is close to Comrie Croft, in Perthshire, I am getting over my imposter syndrome and giving a talk about the HT550 & 24hr MTB racing.

📅Thu 20th Feb
⌚7pm
📍Comrie Croft

One main theme, aside from sharing the good, the bad and the ugly of these events, is:
What motivates a middle aged mum in the throws of her peri menopause to keep putting herself out there and competing in things like this. How did I train, how did I manage my body through the 6 months build up. The guilt of not always being present for my family!!

All money raised from the tickets will go directly to Mountain Bike Trail Therapy - an innervation programme that uses mountain biking as a powerful tool to help people who are struggling with their mental health.

Join us for an intimate evening as Emily shares her experience tackling the epic Highland Trail 550 - a 550-mile self-supported bikepacking adventure through Scotland’s breathtaking Highlands. Expect lots of stories and a deep dive into the highs and lows of ultra-cycling. You are welcome to BYOB

DMBinS are hosting an evening this Thursday all about the HT550.

The fabulous Aoife Glass will be interviewing 👇

🚵‍♀️The speedy & super talented Kerry MacPhee
🌱The force of nature that is Lynne Davies
& me!

Aoife is such a talented interviewer that you should come just for her and the rest is a bonus. I am nervous but also excited to share tales from the trail. We are three very different riders with three different experiences. I can guarantee plenty of laughs.

It's this Thursday (29 Aug) in Peel Tower, Glentress. Tickets are a £5 donation to the Scottish Mountain Bike Health Fund.

There will be some refreshments and I am making some of the homemade snacks that saw me through my first day.

This year saw the very first time that the HT550 had a 50/50 gender split. We wanted to find out more about the challenges and experiences of three of the…

October 10th is World Mental Health Awareness day.

My knowledge and understanding of mental health has grown hugely in the last 6 years. It is something I take extremely seriously. And something I feel very strongly about raising awareness of.

🌱In the last 3 years my life has been directly affected by someone very close to me struggling with clinical depression. Their reaction to stressful situations has been forever changed.

🌱I have witnessed a very close friend, who has PTSD, have a flashback on a bus in Edinburgh after hearing an ambulance. This friend has had numerous periods in hospital and their life has been changed forever due to PTSD.

🌱Much more recently one of my oldest and closest friends killed himself after a short brutal battle with his mental health. Something I am still struggling to come to terms with.

I do wonder where my mental health would be if I didn’t live in Comrie and work in Mountain Biking. I ride to work every day. It only takes 20 minutes, but involves cycling through an avenue of redwood trees, up two steep inclines, 2 whoops downhill and I go past arguably the prettiest waterfall around. That commute is my medicine. The communities I am in from riding my bike are my medicine. I laugh, talk and cry with my friends, that is my medicine. I consider myself very lucky to have this.

I was presented with my Trail Therapy Practitioner Certificate at the Scottish Mountain Bike Awards last Thursday. I am the first person to become a Practitioner. It is something I am very proud of.

Trail Therapy is a 6 week innovative intervention programme that uses mountain biking as a tool to improve a person's wellbeing. I have been leading Mountain Bike Trail Therapy for a year now and I have seen first hand how amazing this programme can be.

“Thank you so much for introducing me to mountain biking. It has so helped me with my mental health and my battle with anxiety and depression.”

“Trail Therapy has changed my life, it has done more for me than any intensive therapy or medication”

I know as individuals we can’t change the world. But if I can help a few people by delivering Trail Therapy, then that is my commitment.🖤

A new trail Therapy Programme is starting on 30th Oct. Email me for more info: [email protected].
