The transition from his first flight in the type, to a full PDA may has been just a few weeks, yet Sqn Ldr Polwin made the display look effortless over the skies of RAF Coningsby 😎

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk!

We are flying WK518 and WG486 to Halfpenny Green Aerodrome today, to join the meet of over 70 Chipmunks marking this special milestone.

The Chipmunk was first flown on the 22nd May 1946 and has become one of the RAF’s longest serving aircraft types having entered RAF service in 1950 and replacing the Tiger Moth. WK518 and WG486 still play a very important part on the Flight to this day, enabling pilots to train on a tail-wheel aircraft before flying the Hurricane, as well as maintaining currency during the annual winter maintenance period.
