We were really excited to be invited to the BBC Breakfast Studios this morning to talk about the first recipient of the scholarship funded through the incredible tributes and donations following the tragic accident involving Squadron Leader Mark Long last year. Earlier this week, Mark Morris took to the skies at Sherburn Aero Club, and was joined by Sqn Ldr Beth Long and Sqn Ldr Mark Sugden, as well as representatives from the Flying Scholarships for Disabled People charity.

We are looking forward to officially launching the Mark Long Trust later this year once we receive the final approval from the Charities Commission, providing long term aviation opportunities to those with disabilities.

You can watch the interview on BBC Breakfast online here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002f15g and keep an eye out for updates on the official Mark Long Trust website here: marklongtrust.org

Started out as an Air Cadet. Now flies iconic aircraft.

Squadron Leader Paul ‘Ernie’ Wise flies the historic Lancaster Bomber at flypasts around the country, but his journey began as an RAF Air Cadet.

From building confidence and lifelong friendships to standing in awe of the historic Lancaster Bomber at flypast, Ernie’s time with the RAF Air Cadets was nothing short of transformative. Fast forward 26 years, and he’s now flying the very aircraft he once looked up to.

As a cadet, Ernie had access to endless opportunities from flying in Sea Kings and Chipmunks to attending RAF camps overseas and laying the foundations of a successful RAF career.

Today, he credits the Air Cadets and the dedicated volunteers for giving him the head start he needed for his career.

“Cadets gave me confidence, helped me focus on my studies, and ignited my passion for flying. It truly shaped who I am today.”

With a strong focus on STEM, teamwork, and leadership, the RAF Air Cadets continue to offer young people invaluable skills and experiences.
